Stop Smoking Herbs - Have You Tried Natural Herbs To Quit Smoking?

To stop smoking is hard, and most smokers cannot quit - and if they do - it is only for a short time. More and more people are getting into the natural way of doing things anymore, and using herbs to stop smoking is a very popular method for smokers today. Those who have been able to quit smoking with using herbs as a preventive, swear by them as a successful aid. They help in combating the withdrawal symptoms that every smoker faces when he tries to give up smoking. Among other things, the herbal cures lead to positive mood swings and reduce the urge to light another cigarette.

One of the natural substances that can be used by people when they want to quit smoking is Lobelia, or Indian tobacco, an old and controversial herb that has recently become popular to smokers who want to quit the habit and cannot. Used for centuries as an expectorant that cleans the lungs, it was used for asthma, bronchitis, whooping cough, or pleurisy. Many uses are connected with Lobelia - relaxants, antispasmodics, diaphoretics, reducing inflammations and pain, poultices, hyperactivity, easing muscle tension or convulsions - which go back in history until its recent popularity today. Many believe it makes the taste of regular tobacco "repulsive" while other naturalists use it to clam the nerves and relax the body muscles, easing mild depression. Lately, current evidence suggests the herb Lobelia can produce similar effects on the human body as nicotine, yet is not addictive and helps eliminate the desire to smoke. There is trouble when it is overused, such as vomiting, drowsiness, weak pulse, and respiratory failure.

Another herb is the Mimosa tea ("mimosa hostilis"), a perennial evergreen shrub that is native to northeastern Brazil and also found in southern Mexico. The root bark is the choice part of the plant, traditionally used in the preparation of a psychoactive sacramental beverage. Giving up smoking may make you feel anxious, or give you a headache but a strong cup of Mimosa tea can boost your mood and help you calm down. It is not addictive and is recommended for use instead of anti-depressant medicines. Similarly, the traditional Chinese CaoSu herb diminishes the desire to smoke.

Smoking non-tobacco cigarettes look like regular cigarettes and are available in many flavors like burnt sienna and menthol. They offer the same sensation while smoking as regular cigarettes but are healthier because they don't contain nicotine or tar. However, you must consult your doctor before taking these or any herbal medicines, because many of them may contain substances similar to drugs. You must also eat lots of raw or lightly steamed fresh fruits and vegetables, drinking lots of water, fruit juice, herbal tea, etc, to flush out the nicotine. Try taking hot baths, whirlpool baths, and saunas. These make you feel better, and reduce the urge to smoke. Another way to fight the craving for nicotine is to chew on a large flavored toothpick, or squirt juice into your mouth. Similarly, drinking herbal tea, which is made from five different herbs, can help you to fight the urge to smoke.

Quit Smoking The Natural Way

Nowadays you can find many products that help people stop smoking. While these products may look convincing to the inexperienced eye, the truth is some work, but most don't. Many people don't realize that sometimes the best way to quit smoking is by using natural ways.

Here's a list of proven natural ways to give up smoking for good:

1. Support Groups

A support group can be the most natural way people can find to help them quit anything really, not just smoking. Anyone from family to close friends can be part of this support group, people who have the same problem you have or people who had the problem in the past and are now "cured." Usually when you go out with friends to have a drink, you feel the need to smoke. So go out, plan activities with your group, relax and help each other not smoke.

2. Hypnotherapy

A big problem that stop smoking products can't fix is the mental addiction. They focus on giving you replacements to smoking but don't handle the psychological part. This is where hypnotherapy comes in.

The patient sits comfortably in a sofa while the therapist, who may even play some music to further relax the patient, tries to cure his mental dependency.

3. Cold Turkey

This method is probably the best-known natural way of giving up smoking. In theory the process is very simple, the idea being to quit smoking without any help from any type of products whatsoever. It can be a difficult process that requires strong will power to reach the goal. The smoker must totally quit smoking and is challenged to do so without even any psychological help.

It is recommended you drink a lot of fluids like water or juice in order to avoid the temptation to put a cigarette in your mouth. Another useful thing you could do that will surely help a lot is to constantly stay busy, with your work or spending quality time with your family so that you get smoking off your mind.

So there you go, these are three effective natural ways to quit smoking, and while there may very well be other ways out there, it is strongly recommend that you start with these three as you are not at a risk of any secondary effects compared to using many of the products currently on the market.

The Best Way to Quit Smoking

Smoking is a habit that most find difficult to quit. This can be because of the psychological symptoms one experiences after quitting or nicotine addiction in which the person has become dependent on nicotine. That is why it is very difficult to suggest the best way to quit smoking. What may work with one smoker may not work with another.

However, this does not mean that a smoker cannot give up smoking. The best way to quit smoking is to choose a program that suits you specifically. Nicotine replacement therapy, also known as NRT, is one of the most effective and commonly used methods. You can also opt for counseling, emotional therapy or medication or a combination of these methods.

Much depends on how you deal with the withdrawal symptoms. For nicotine replacement therapy, the smoker is provided nicotine in low quantities in the forms of gums, patches, inhalers or nasal sprays. They reduce the craving by releasing nicotine at low levels. The dose is gradually reduced allowing the person's mind and body to accept it before completely stopping it. The success rate of NRT is high and there are relatively few people who relapse even after several years. This is why many consider NRT to be the best way to quit smoking.

An important point to remember is that you should not smoke while undergoing this therapy. It can be dangerous since the nicotine levels in the body may become very high. Nicotine gums and patches are available over the counter while the other forms of the NRT can only be taken under medical supervision.

Another form of treatment is medication. Patients are given Zyban, which is a drug made from the chemical bupropion. This drug stimulates the release of dopamine and norepinephrine in the body - two chemicals that produce feelings of pleasure similar to those experienced while smoking. The success rate of this treatment is modest, and there have been cases when patients have returned to smoking after a period of time. This makes it important for patients who took Zyban to give up smoking to keep in touch with their physicians. Zyban should be taken under medical supervision only and people who are suffering from cardiac disorders or epilepsy should not take it. It is advisable for pregnant women to avoid taking Zyban as well.

Psychological counseling also helps smokers better fight withdrawal symptoms like mood changes and anxiety. Trained professionals who may help make you emotionally stronger perform counseling. They counsel you over the advantages of not smoking. Alternative therapies such as meditation and yoga may also provide added benefits.

For some, however, the best way to quit smoking is the cold turkey method. The smoker decides one day that he is not going to smoke any longer. He stubs out the cigarette, and does not light another. This is a difficult method and requires great willpower.
