PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE BOUGHT AND SOLD

Ok, this is 2009- slavery was abolished 200 YEARS AGO- right?

Well, IT MAY HAVE BEEN ABOLISHED, BUT IT STILL GOES ON!

In the USA, in the UK, and in every country in the world, one person is trafficked across borders against their will EVERY MINUTE - that's 2-4 MILLION men, women and children trafficked across borders and within their own country every year.

They are bought, sold and transported into slavery, deceived, and taken against their will, to be used  for sexual exploaitation, sweat shops, child brides, circuses, sacrificial worship, forced begging, sale of juman organs, domestic servitude.

Human trafficking - is where family members and friends deceive parents to release their children or sell them for as little as $20 each, selling them on to local gangmasters or serious organised international trafficking rings

Human trafficking - is where victims usually suffer repeated physical abuse, fear, torture and threats to families to break their spirits and turn them into saleable commodities. a person can be sold and trafficked many times.

Human trafficking CAN BE STOPPED- if we all spread the word, do some very simple things- listed below, and join the massive worldwide movement  'STOP THE TRAFFIK' - a growing global movement of individuals, communities and organisations fighting to PREVENT the sale of people, PROTECT the trafficked and PROSECUTE the traffickers

The nasty facts about chocolate

IS YOUR CHOCOLATE MADE BY CHILDREN IN SLAVERY?

Over a third of the world's chocolate comes from Cote D'Ivoire, Africa. It's highly likely that your favourite chocolate bar comes from here.
Thousands of children who pick these beans have been trafficked. They have had their freedom taken away from them and are forced to work long hours on the cocoa plantations without receiving any money for their work.

STOP tHE TRAFFIK has been campaigning for years to get the chocolate industry to stop using child labour.
In 2001 the ICI (International Chocolate Initiative) was set up, and promised to eradicate the worst forms of child labour within the industry, including trafficking, by 2005.
ITS NOW 2009 and WE ARE STILL WAITING.

There are several things we want the chocolate industry to do- Do your bit to pressure on them, and spread the word about what they are doing- and the truth behind your chocolate bars.

This is an easy thing to do- buy only chocolate which displays the Fairtrade logo- shown below.

EMAIL A LETTER TO NESTLE-
Use the links below with letters asking Nestle to confirm or deny that Nestle source from farms using children who are trafficked and forced to work on cocoa plantations in Cote d'Ivoire..
Ask them exactly where their cocoa beans are harvested?

Let them know that as a chocolate consumer you need to know that if you buy Nestle, you are not buying beans from farms using exploitative child labour. .

Easter plea to all chocolate lovers

Chocolate egg makers are still using trafficked children and profiting from their misery

stop child trafficking at easter

THIS EASTER start making small changes to help these child slaves who are working long hours, with no pay, and under unimaginable conditions.
How can we honestly tuck into our chocolate eggs knowing that some child is sufferng for that pleasure?

PLEASE TELL FRIENDS, family, colleagues, strangers about child trafficking in the cocoa industry.
Small changes have been made by the industry, but please dont let them stiop there, and let them believe they have done enough. THEY HAVE NOT!
Let the chocolate industry know you are NOT YET SATISFIED.

Use this link to get posters for you school or office, flyers to print off, addresses to email, and loads more.

Latest News from Nestle

Kit Kat to be Fair trade! It's great- but it's only on the 'four finger' bar- so keep the pressure on them please!

On Monday morning (December 7th) chocolate giant Nestlé UK will finally announce that Kit Kat is to be slavery free or fairly traded from January 2010.

But this good news is only partial. Though Nestlé have bowed to pressure from the STOP THE TRAFFIK campaign to clean up their act, they will also announce that this will only apply to their 'four finger' product. In other words, two finger Kit Kats and all of their other chocolate products will continue to exploit the chocolate slaves of the Ivory Coast from where Nestlé source most of their cocoa.

STOP THE TRAFFIK has learnt that from January 2010 the four finger Kit Kats will be fairtrade and that this will be made public on Monday. However, Nestlé still refuse to budge on their two finger biscuits.

"We welcome the Nestlé announcement. We are relieved for the cocoa farmers and children in Ivory Coast. The surrender of Nestlé demonstrates that by making a simple consumer choice ordinary people can hold multi-nationals to account. Though we understand that it is hard to make all products ethical overnight, we want to see that this is more than a token gesture. So, we intend to keep the pressure on Nestlé until their commitment is global and product wide, like their competitor Mars. No chocolate should have the bitter aftertaste of slavery. Therefore our campaign continues"

One story from a child that was helped

Please bear in mind that the story below is just one from millions of similar life stories happening around you- today, right now, in your town, in your city, to kids of your age, to men and women who have no choice.....
.PLEASE DO SOMETHING. Even reading this and passing on this website link to your friends is a start-
JUST DO SOMETHING!

MASUD'S STORY
Masud was 12 years old when his parents were tricked
into letting him be taken from his home in Bangladesh to
England. He was trafficked.
He left with an unknown man who travelled with him to
London and then onto the South West where he was
abandoned in an Indian restaurant.
To survive he worked in the restaurants living in small
store rooms, sleeping next to jars of chutney and bags
of onions. Sometimes when there was no work he was
forced to sleep on the streets. He was not able to go to
school and his life was controlled by the
restaurant owners.
When he was 28, with the help of STOP THE TRAFFIK, he
contacted the Home Office and the local police who were
able to help him be reunited with his family

Masud was in slavery in London for 16 years before Stop The Traffik eventually helped hime break free.
His whole childhood was gone.
It's happening all around you, nomatter what country you live in.
Please do something to help today.

Stop The Traffik can make things happen.

Its happening in your own backyard

Children are bought and sold every day.

They are sold into prostitution, and children as young as 4 are sold for sex, and raped -sometimes as much as 20 times a day- EVERY DAY.

Guns can only be sold once, a child can be sold over and over and over.

Human trafficking is the biggest and most profitable ilegal activity after drug trading.

This is the shocking part... IT'S HAPPENING RIGHT HERE.... in the UK, in USA, actually in mostly any country in the world- and on a bigger scale than you could imagine.

Check out this video
Atlanta ranks as one of the highest US cities for child sex trafficking.
