Stop the War on the Poor

With all this talk around oil prices, drilling, etc. I would like to express my opinion.
90% of our energy consumption is fossil fuels, so doesn't it make sense if this country makes sure we have enough of the stuff to go around?
I believe we need to harvest all our natural resources in a clean and safe way.
Many say this cannot be done without destroying the environment. I disagree; Look at the Alaska pipleline. Has this long tube, which has been in existence since the 1970's been a harbinger of doom of gloom? No, it has run smoothly, and did not chase the animals screaming into the wilderness.
With that said; we do need to stop the war on the poor, since the poorest in our society are the first victims of any economy downturn. Oil prices have decreased in the last few weeks, but all we need is another Russia, Iran, or Irag incident to send the futures market salivating.
