"CANCER"! What I learned and need to share with everyone who has had or knows someone with this Horrible Disease!

Having "CANCER", yes can change your life and everyone around you! Its a sad but true fact that we all have been touched, either personally ourselves or by someone you know or love. Its far too common today to somehow never be affected. I wanted to share my experiences. I thought I knew more than I did before I was diagnosed with "Breast Cancer".

I am one of the Healthiest people I know, did all the right things, cancer does not run in my family, but guess what? I got it anyway! "BREAST CANCER"! My whole family and I are still and will always be In Shock! Not in denial, but in shock! Finding out that most women who are diagnosed, it doesn't run in their family! That's a myth! How and why I think I was chosen to walk down that path, is another topic, still to come!

What I want to share now is How to support and what to do to help a person going through Cancer. Those of you who have never had Cancer, have no idea what to do and what to say? So I so want, not only for the Cancer victims sake, but for your sake to let you in on what you should do and say!

Attitude is Everything!

Attitude affects everything you do in your life!

As a Breast Cancer survivor I can tell you Attitude will make all the difference! After surviving Breast Cancer I spend time now supporting others in their fight!

My birth mother had Lung Cancer and never fought it. She had the Attitude of "I've lived a good life, and I am ready to go!"
My 2nd Mother had Breast Cancer 5 years ago. Recently her cancer came back in her lungs and her bones. She passed away this May. She had an amazing Attitude through it all. I admired her strength though out.

One of the Women in my support group who recently passed away, had sent this to one of our members to share with us! So to honor the Memory of our beloved sister, Shelley Whitten, who had an unbelievable attitude in the face of death. May this give you peace to know how much you are remembered, loved and that you shared your Attitude with others. To all who reads this, may it give you words to ponder and a strength to maybe Adjust your Attitude! It might save your life, or someone near and dear to you. There are other things in life more important, take the time to find that someone!

ATTITUDE! Its The Best Medicine!

Doctors Would Write A RX For It If They Could!

ATTITUDE
Attitude! Read it, share it, it might change your Life! For the Better!

YES! "CANCER" DOES CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

SURPRISINGLY SOMETIMES FOR THE BETTER!

One of my newest BEST friends is my sister! My greatest Guardian Angel I could have ever been blessed with. Yes, we were close before, but not like we are today! My heart aches for people who are not as fortunate as I am, to have someone they can count on 110%! My other newest BEST friend, is a friend-family, who had Colon Cancer four years earlier. She gave me support no one else could, because she was my only link to someone else who had had Cancer. Everyone can Sympathize, but you need someone who can Empathize as well. Its really important!! Its a bond you can't share with anyone else! Make sure you have that. Same with having Chemo, radiation or having lost a Breast! I was lucky! You can't fully relate unless you have lived it! Like my Daddy always says: "Don't criticize and abuse, till you walk a mile in my shoes!"

HOW TO SUPPORT SOMEONE!

WHAT TO SAY !

No one knows what to say to someone who has or has had "The Big C"! Afraid of saying the wrong thing and watching them fall apart. However, not saying anything at all is worse. It makes you feel like you are contagious like you have AIDS instead! Feeling alienated is really worse and we know that's not really your intent. Its fear!!

When I heard my friend had Colon Cancer, I didn't know what to say or what to do to help. So I did nothing. She had a strong family support system, but no one who had had Cancer to relate to. I felt horrible later that I didn't help, especially when she had been such a comfort to me when I needed her!

CHEMO ATE MY BRAIN!

LIVING IN A FOG!

Iam here to tell you that's a true side effect. You have many days where you can't put two thoughts together because it just hurts to think that hard. You are in a dense fog for a few months and sometimes years to come. Lets face it, you also fried some brain cells! So you need to just take control sometimes and do things without asking "What can I do"? Cause we don't know either. Clean up, do laundry, cook, run errands, take them out to lunch, or my favorite, bring me "Taco Bell"!!I always felt better with Taco Bell.

WHY DO I THINK I WAS CHOSEN TO WALK DOWN THAT PATH?

GOD WORKS IN WONDERFUL WAYS!

I truly believe God chooses his children for his special purposes! I know I am an extremely strong person and he chose me to help others who are not as strong. Cancer is not the first time I have been tested. I now can share the Sympathy as well as the Empathy. One of the reasons I wanted to have an Internet business, so I could have some extra free time to spend supporting others.

I am truly glad that you have people who share in your fight. I was not that fortunate, but made it through okay. I was very young when I was diagnosed with bone cancer, so I simply could not have the attitude of feeling that I had led a full and good life. I had my whole life still in front of me and refused to back down. Still. it never ceases to amaze me how all survivor stories mirror or parallel each other in one way or another. Please, I invite you to come read my story as well. I actually have two lenses on this subject. "CANCER IS A PUNK" and "Squidoo Cancer Forum." I am lensrolling your lens to both of mine.
