A one month plan to stop drinking too much

A plan to stop drinking, if you have never attempted to curb your drinking habits before, can seem like an impossible task. Going for a week without drinking can even seem difficult - much less a whole month.

If you are serious about stopping your over-consumption of alcohol, though, you need to create a realistic plan of action.

Part 1 of the 30 day stop drinking plan

First off, get rid of your stash. This is important to you, so even if you have $300 worth of booze stored somewhere in your house, get rid of it. You don't need to chuck it down the drain; give it to a friend.

Preferably one who doesn't like alcohol.

Part 2 of the 30 day stop drinking plan

Tell your friends about your decision. It may seem like a personal thing, but the more people know that you're taking steps to stop drinking alcohol, the better. You will have a more supportive group - and the ones that don't support you are the ones you don't need.

Surround yourself with positive influences. Get rid of your drinking buddies. These are changes that will make you feel better because you aren't drinking.

Part 3 of the 30 day stop drinking plan

Get healthier. Your lack of alcohol is going to make you restless, and there's nothing better to do with excess energy than to use it for something positive.

If you don't normally exercise, go for a run after you get home from work - or join a gym. (This is great for social butterflies!)

Eat healthier. You are making a plan to stop drinking so your body can recover; now is the time to make changes to your diet, too. If you don't normally eat well, incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your diet.

Make your mind and spirit happy, too. Developing a hobby and spending time doing something you love will not only make you feel better - it will also take your mind off of drinking.
