Time to Think Outside the Box for Lego Storage Solutions?
One of the problems of having a son with a Lego obsession is finding good storage solutions. My son and I have endless... er... chats about how he should store his Legos. We tried many ways to solve the problem but somehow they still ended up on the floor! I have reached the conclusion that all I can do is provide the storage and hope that he will discover that having the Lego sorted and stored properly will be easier for him. We shall see. In the meantime I have bought several storage units and have found that the best ones are not always the dedicated Lego storage modules, as attractive as they are. Sometimes it pays to think outside the box.
Here is a selection of the best Lego storage.

Plano Molding 1819 XXL
Would this large wheeled tool chest make good Lego storage?
This is a pretty rugged storage box, normally used as a tool box, it would be fantastic for storing Lego bricks. Almost 38 inches long by 18 inches wide and 14 inches deep, it has room for lots of Legos. They are even stackable. Another bonus is that you can tip the Lego out and use the box on your camping trip!
Make sure you protect edges with a strip of foam so that small fingers can't get trapped. Also remove any keys so that the box can't get permanently locked.
Lego Model Display
Another aspect of Lego storage
One thing that is overlooked by toy storage manufacturers is that often a child wants to display his or her models. After all they are justly proud of their creations.
This Eight Bin Toy Organizer is ideal for display and storage. Strong, sturdy and good looking, this item will provide a great place to store Lego as well as a display area or work surface.

Reduce the Lego rummage!
Another problem with Lego is keeping the various types of bricks together. My kid has no system at all, despite our advice to keep all the wheels in one tray, all the base plates in another. He enjoys the adventure of the Lego brick rummage - even if it sounds like thunder in the room directly below his bedroom.
This fabulous unit would be ideal, partnered with transparent boxes as shown (boxes not included), for categorizing and separating all the different types of bricks and components. The top would also make an ideal display area for their Lego creations.

Neat-Oh Lego Storage
Practical Lego storage and toy all-in-one. Makes a great gift for kids (& Moms!).
Sometimes the best solution isn't always the most obvious one.
Store Lego Under the Bed
Flat boxes make small Lego bricks easier to find
Underbed storage boxes can sometimes be the perfect solution for construction toys like Lego. They can be heavy when filled so make sure your child is able to pull/push them on his/her own. A hard floor helps in this respect. These 4 x 66 quart boxes would store all your child's Lego. Maybe.

Lego to Go
Lego project chest and carry-case system
Your child can organise their Lego in this store and carry workstation. This ingenious unit by Iris contains 6 removable and portable carry cases. Each one can hold a single Lego project so that required pieces remain separate until required. The cases are also big enough to store the necessary instruction manuals.
The unit also has a work area, which holds a 10" x 10" base plate (two of which come with the unit). Alternatively, this area can be used for displaying completed models.
Excellent for extra storage, especially if your child is organized enough to keep his or her projects separate. I think you'd still need some other bins for ALL the Legos!
Includes 6 portable snap-tight storage cases (2 yellow, 2 red, 1 blue, 1 green)Dimensions: (chest) 14.6"W x 12.2"L x 24.6"H; (cases/each) 13"W x 12.25"L x 3.125"H.
