Storage Ottomans With Serving Trays

Did you know you can buy Ottomans in matching sets? Much of the time one Ottoman won't be enough to share with everyone sitting in your living room, or while the tray top is removed you'll have nowhere to rest your feet. Buying a matching set of Ottomans is much cheaper than purchasing them individually. If you're concerned about space then why not buy a 'Russian Doll' type Ottoman? That's one Ottoman that fits inside another - if a guest arrives then you can just pull it out for them to use. Alternatively if you need to make more room in your living room it can be stored inside the other while it's not in use. A great idea!

The Ottoman

Some Background

Originally Ottomans we're thought to have originated in the far east making their way across Europe by the start of the nineteenth century as they seemed suited to the 'leaning back' manner of sitting and were thought of more as footstools. Made with quality fabrics such as the silk based Ottoman textile they were something of a luxury for the chattering classes. Nowadays they have a multitude of purposes, not just as footstools but stools or chairs, coffee tables and the hollow inside is utilized for storage purposes. With a padded surface on top to make it more comfortable, the Ottoman resembles something of an armless chair. Modifications to their design in recent years sees them having reversible lids that can be used as a tray when turned up side down, and with very useful storage room inside for every day items such as books, magazines and shoes. What they might be most useful for storing might well be the remote controls that are found in most peoples living rooms, as this keeps them from going missing.

They are commonly bound in rich dark leather, though faux leather is very popular also.
