The Stormy Kromer
In 1903 railroad engineer George "Stormy" Kromer had lost one hat too many to the wind while running his locomotive. He had his wife sew ear flaps on one of his old ball caps and the first Stormy Kromer was born.
He now had a hat that would keep his head warm and stay there. Mass production began in 1919 down in Milwaukee until it ceased production in 2001.
The Stormy Kromer hats were saved from extinction by Bob Jacquart and are now produced in Michigan's Upper Peninsula town of Ironwood.
