St. Patty's Day is celebrated on March 17, on the feast day and the anniversary of St. Patrick's death in the 5th century. This holiday has been observed by the Irish for over a thousand years.

These days everyone celebrates St. Patrick's Day and uses it as an excuse to wear green and drink all day. So let's show you how to do it up right.

Irish Drinks

Irish Car Bomb:
-Mix 1/2 shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey and 1/2 shot of Baileys Irish Cream into a shot glass.
- Pour 3/4 of a glass of Guinness.
- Drop shot into Guiness and drink.

Black & Tan:
- Pour 1/2 glass of Bass Ale (or Harps Lager).
- Hold a spoon upside down over the glass and pour Guinness over the spoon until glass is full.
- The Guinness should settle on top of the beer, creating a black and tan appearance.

Irish Depth Charge:
- Pour a double shot of vodka into a double shot glass.
- Holding a pint glass upside-down over the shot glass press the shot glass against the bottom of the pint glass.
- Flip glass over and fill half with Bass Ale (or Harps Lager). And pour Guinness over a spoon as mentioned above.
- Remove double shot glass from bottom and drink.

Irish Poker

Irish Poker is not only the best drinking game ever invented, but its seasonally appropriate for St. Patty's Day.

My only disclaimer is not to play too long because you can drink a lot in a short period of time.
  • Get a deck of cards a max of 13 players and have lots of beer handy.
  • Deal 4 cards to each player face down. Noone is allowed to look at their cards until the game begins.
  • The person to the left of the deal begins. The must either guess, "Red" of "Black," then flip over their first card. If they guessed right, then they can deal out drinks (ie.- if they guessed 'Red' and the card was the 7 of hearts, then they can give someone at the table 7 seconds of drinking, or one person 3 seconds and another 4, or however they want to divide it). If they guessed wrong, then they must drink (ie- if they guessed 'Black' and it was the 7 of hearts, they must drink for 7 seconds).
  • After the 'Red and Black' first card, the player must guess if their second card will be 'Higher' or 'Lower' than the first card pulled. If they are right, the give out drinks. If wrong they drink. However, if they get the exact same card as their first card, they must drink twice the amount on the card (ie- if a person pulls two 7 cards in a row, they must drink for 14 seconds).
  • The guess on the third card is 'Outside' or 'In Between.' For example, if your first two cards are 2 and 7, 'In Between would be any card 3 through 6, and 'Outside' would be 8 and up.
  • The last card guessed is the most difficult, but the easiest to explain. One must simply guess what the suit of the card is. Clubs, Spades, Hearts, Diamonds.
  • Note: That Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are all worth 10 seconds, and the Aces are worth 11.

Drinking Essentials

Guinness
Guinness is a must for St. Patty's Day, and should be served in abundance at most any celebration.
Bailey's Irish Cream
Bailey's is another key drink to have at any St. Patrick's Day celebration. Bailey's is a smooth, flavorful liquor that is great mixed with other drinks, or even good alone on the rocks.
Jameson Irish Whiskey
Jameson is the most well known of Irish Whiskey's.
