Anyone who has heard of this newer cell phone service knows it's an incredible deal on paper, but....Is Straight Talk a reliable Network? We all know the price of its service is one of the lowest in the industry, but how is customer service? Coverage? Overall Reliability? These are crucial components to any wireless company and I am here to deliver some unbiased facts about Straight Talk wireless
I think this is a damn good deal! You can order a brand new phone and 1,000 minutes talk and text for about $50 USD!
I went phone shopping in the suburbs of Boston a few months ago, and the cheapest I could get the same deal for was $120 from T-Mobil. So in terms of price, this is pretty good news for consumers.
I have to wonder if there are consequences to this deal, though. You have Walmart here, buying space on networks through an intermediary service and selling it forward at a cheaper price than the networks sell it. Frankly, I'm pretty surprised that this service got launched at all - just how much are networks willing to undercut themselves? Or it could be a case of Walmart being able to afford to pay the operators the difference from their own pocket, in order to attract subscribers. If so, to what end?
I'm pretty amused by the $45 dollar tariff as well, sniping Sprint by 5 bucks a month at the unlimited game is quite the little PR stunt. As long as providers keep undercutting to maintain their customer base and keep our wallets a little healthier, I'm okay with that.
No need to worry about coverage!
Why?
Up until July 2010, Straight Talk ran exclusively on a single network. It's one of America's best networks and people were (and are) thrilled with the great coverage at a ridiculously low price. But there were a few places where Straight Talk wasn't available because the local network didn't support it.
That's hardly an issue any more!
waaaahhh!
I'm sad cause I pay $65/mo for this crappy little phone with no internet!!

He's probably playing tetris or pong
Contract!? I don't need no stinking Contract!
Some Benefits to "Pay as you go" Service Plans
How can this service cost so little money!?
Here is the low down on Straight Talk
How is it so inexpensive?
In a move that is without a doubt making some large service carriers nervous, Walmart has announced its very own mobile plans. In Walmart stores, or on-line, you can now buy a devices from the shopping giant on its "Straight Talk" plans - which offer unlimited talk time for as little as $45 a month.
Why are they doing this?
The service has been organized through TracFone Wireless, a subsidiary of Latina American mobile operating giant, America Movil. TracFone doesn't have a network of it's own in the States, so it's buying voice, text and data from other operators (mostly Verizon, so far) to power Straight Talk.
What are the rates?
There are two plans launched on Straight Talk so far.
The cheaper plan is for $35 a month, and comes with 1,000 minutes voice, 1,000 texts and 30 MB of mobile data.
The more expensive plan is $45 a month, and that comes with unlimited voice, text and data.

SO, is Straight Talk worth it?
Things you wanna know before joining Straight Talk
That equates to a whopping $600 a year savings which is enormous. With an annual savings like that, I'm certainly willing to tolerate a few inconveniences:
Just about all of the reviews I have read from Straight Talk Customers are delighted with their phones and service plans. They are saving bundles of money compared to what they used to spend! There were a few less than perfect reviews about things that may or may not matter to you. Read the following and make a decision for yourself:
1) I read review from a person who complained about a phone card not being included with the phone... do you realize that still this is much much cheaper than a phone from the big 3? You can get an LG Flip Phone for only $30 with NO contract! You have to commit to a lengthy contract with pretty much every carrier in order to get a decent phone that cheap.
2) For the person who has the Straight Talk plan deducted from their checking account... I wouldn't do this for any service provider! Instead have your bank electronically SEND the check to them... its free at most major banks!!
3) And for the person who said that their call center speaks broken English... I understand that can be quite irritable... but then again I'm willing to deal with it considering I'm saving $600 a year... just my thoughts.
I will leave the decision up to you, but if you're interested in getting a decent phone and solid service for less than anywhere else, I would have to recommend Straight Talk.

- Straight Talk is able to provide this service at such a reasonable price for the following reasons.
To avoid overhead they completly void your option for customer service.
Although you will be runnning on two of the strongest networks Straight Talk is a 50/50 provider, which means that they only promise service 50% of the time. This is into reference that service you will recieve Will be last priority on the network aka you will have the slowest data speeds be the first to drop calls and may have an extreme delay in text messages being recieved. A good analogy would be going with a credible insurance company that will provide the service you pT for each month or going with a company that provides the bare minimum to save a few bucks.
The highest quality phone they say would be equivilent to a new phone on any of these carriers 4years ago.
Overall its a good buy if your in a financial bind and in between phone companies but it is not the long term solution, it has become a phone relliant world and having a good phone is a neccesity for most.
Remember you get what you pay for.

- As long as they keep their prices around the same while continuing to offer truly unlimited service, i'll stick around. I always get the feeling that when companies offer these kinds of deals, it's just so they can build up a base and when they meet their numbers, jack up the prices. They could easily do that especially considering it's a no-contract plan which basically means "hey there's nothing saying that we OWED you these prices forever!". If/when that happens, I'll switch to the next network that's trying to build up their customer base lol but until then, yayyyyy Straight Talk!

- I just wanted to add that you can tell what service your Straight Talk phone goes through by looking at the model number. If it ends with the letter "C" it means it does not have a sim card and will operate on the CDMA network which is Verizon. If it ends in a "G" that particular phone is a GMA phone, which means it has a sim card and operates on either AT&T or Tmobile.

- I have had Straight Talk service for almost a year now. When I bought my first phone I spent a few extra dollars on the cell phone replacement plan. About a month ago, my daughter spilled a cup of water on my phone and the phone didn't work after that. I called the plan number and told them what happened and within a few days had a Wal-mart giftcard loaded with the amount I spent for my phone plus tax on it. The person I spoke with on the phone spoke plain English. I also got a fabulous new replacement phone that I absolutely love. (I also purchased a new replacement phone card, LOL, just incase.)

- I'm giving up one of the big three. Even with a new phone the texting is now costing me .80 to send and recieve, plus a penny every new person added to my contacts (so much for nickle and diming). I really don't need a touch screen or alot of silly apps.
