A lot of work's gone into this. I live in Norwich UK and I've never heard of Hooker Hill - maybe we have another name for it - but I do know Horn Pie Road.

There's a lot of strange names, but I'm sure there's an explanation why they name that street that way. :)

  • Brian Griffin Apr 26, 2011 @ 3:32 am | delete
Too funny. The Titwobble street was apparently named after a guy named "Tittwobbler' LOL... and to top it off he lives in a town in Texas called Pfugerville... Seriously! Here's a link.

I've driven by or through a number of the oddly named places in England, and have had dinner at a couple of versions of Sodburys. Some of the place names make me laugh every time I see them.
  • bobby Feb 28, 2011 @ 12:14 pm | delete
hahahahahah some of those are realllllllllly funnnnny(:
  • Ka'ĹŤnohi Feb 17, 2011 @ 5:16 pm | delete
You guys spelled the Hawai'i place names wrong. They're spelled Pe'epe'e and Po'opo'o. They're Hawaiian names not English "scatological" names.

There's a Peculiar Drive near my house.

It actually used to be a highway. Now it's just a side road.
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Nov 2, 2010 @ 9:07 pm | delete
Oh, and we have a little tiny, non incorporated town around here called Lizard Lick. It has a Lizard Lick Ave, which I have a picture of.
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Nov 2, 2010 @ 9:05 pm | delete
I love this! Imagine spending ten's of thousands of dollars on a house, hundreds of thousands and having to tell people you live on Butt Wynd or Tumbledown Dick! I wouldn't buy or I would demand a name change!
  • emerald125 Oct 17, 2010 @ 9:38 pm | delete

Fee Fee Road in St. Louis
  • smange Feb 14, 2010 @ 1:43 am | delete
There's a street in Adelaide (Australia) called "Bent St". After almost all the stoners in Adelaide stole the sign (it got replaced frequently) they eventually painted the sign on the wall nearest to the street corner. :)
  • Magtic Feb 12, 2010 @ 10:20 am | delete
What about Namleps Lane. Deer Park, NY?

Great lens, 5*****. It's amazing where some of these names come from. I was born in Lilliput Road, but I'm not a midget! Just up the road from here in Deerfield Beach (Florida) is Lob Lolly Lane.
I remember at high school there was a tv commercial for Typhoo Tea "Typhoo Puts The T In Britain".
We used to say, well then who puts the "****" in Scunthorpe... LOL :)
  • nopantstees Jul 9, 2009 @ 9:02 pm | delete

  • Wysiwigs Mar 31, 2009 @ 4:42 am | delete
I wonder how many times some of those names get repeated when giving the address to someone (a pretty mortifying moment, to be sure :o) Another fabulous 5* lens girl!

Evansville, IN is also home to Gun Powder Lane. I lived there a short while.

For more holiday themed street names, check out a map of Santa Claus, IN (google maps works great!). There is an entire area with Christmas street names (including all of the reindeer) and also another area with other holidays such as "inauguration day "and "pro superbowl". It's all around the theme park called Holiday World, the nation's oldest theme park.
