One of the first strawberry facts that comes to mind is... where does the name "strawberry" come from?
There are assorted legends on how the name strawberry came to be. One says straw was spread around growing plants to help protect the fruit as it ripened, a procedure most farms imitate today but using raised beds covered in plastic.
Another is children in the nineteenth century would pick the berries, string them on grass straws and sell them as 'straws of berries'. The most popular is because placement of the berries on the plant makes them appear to be 'strewn' about the 'strewn berry' name just became strawberry.
Let Me Count How Many Calories In Strawberries, these Healthy Fruits
Strawberries are low calorie treats
Although strawberries are an awesome treat, however, do you actually know how many calories are therer in strawberries? Let me tell you. For example:
- a small strawberry is 3 calories,
- a medium strawberry is 4 calories
- a large strawberry is 7 calories
- extra large strawberries are 11 for 1
- jumbo strawberries are 15 calories.
It's adding sugar or chocolate that adds the calories.
Plain strawberries are a healthy, low calories snack but are they really berries?
True berries have seeds inside but the strawberry's yellow "seeds" are on the outside and are each considered to actually be a separate fruit. For this reason botanists say the strawberry is not classified as a true berry.

- Great lens. We love strawberries. My four year old son has been eating strawberries since he was two. He can eat a pint of strawberries at one sitting. In fact, he eats more fruit than candy. Good, healthy kid.
