10 Ways To Stream Internet Movies
There are really only 2 steps to get movies and TV streaming to your home:
Figure out where to get the content, and how to get it to your TV.
There are 5 big sources of streaming TV and movies that you will definitely want to check out: Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon VOD (video on demand), Blockbuster VOD, and YouTube.
As for getting it to your TV - you will need a decent internet connection - a mid level DSL ( about 6 Mbps) - which costs somewhere between $35-$40/month will get you all the speed you need to stream even HD movies. And yes, you can still use it to surf the web at the same time.
So instead of paying obscene cable tv bill, for channels that never get watched, you can crate your own Internet-enabled televisions, program your own schedules and watch your favorite shows on demand, at a fraction of the cost.
These services and devices are just a beginning - streaming video is poised the future of TV and home entertainment. But no matter what magic things they will come up with the future, the HD streaming video and TV are here now - so have it your way, and save money too.
Main Options for Streaming Movies from the Internet to Your TV
Amazon Video on Demand
The new 800 pound gorilla of streaming movies is the Amazon's Video On Demand service. With a catalog of more than 40,000 (and growing) titles, it can keep you glued to the screen close to forever. Movies can be either purchased outright (typically about $14.99, though some are cheaper, some a bit more expensive), or can be rented for $2.99. Amazon also provides access to popular TV series. TV episodes are $1.99 a piece, though many can be as cheap as $0.99. Videos can be streamed directly from Amazon or downloaded to a computer and watched offline, at the viewer's leisure. Movies and TV shows you get from Amazon are commercial-free.
Amazon is very convenient - you can stream movies from Amazon, so if you are not using a computer to connect to Amazon, you don't have to worry about adding storage at home to download stuff - simply stream your stuff from Amazon. They are open 24/7. Of course, if you have a computer and want to download and save your movies - that's your privilage as well.

You can watch latest (24 hour delay) TV shows from NBC and FOX, as well as an incredible array of classic shows - from original Star Trek, to Quantum Leap, Doogie Houser M.D, or Perry Mason for that matter. Hulu is a goldmine of classic TV shows.
Naturally, you can also get a whole bunch of classic movies, B-movies,
and a surprising number of foreign, particularly European movies.
If you want a better experience, you can get Hulu Plus for $7.99/month - this will let you watch on more devices, not just stream through a computer, and it will be in 720 HD.

Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray Player
If you are not feeling comfy totally ditching the physical disks, you can get an internet enabled Blu-ray player, like the Samsung BD-P1600. It combines high-definition Blu-ray disc playback with video streaming from Netflix. The BD-P1600 is a profile 2.0 Blu-ray player, with an Ethernet port that allows it online access, this way it can do both the internet streaming and play dvd or blu-ray movies.
Netflix has opened up its "Watch Instantly" capabilities to other devices as LG brand Blu-ray disc players, the LG BD 370. Although Blu-ray was initially positioned as the future in videos, streaming videos from the internet are quickly making any disk-based technology seem, well, old. LG and Samsung have combined the best of both worlds in some of their Blu-ray players.
An interesting twist is the LG BD390 Blu-ray player, which adds Vudu to it's support. Vudu is a Netflix wannabe. Don't know if it survives, but it gives you one more place to look for a movie you want.
Naturally, you can also stream TV shows and movies using Microsoft's Xbox 360 video game, and TiVo Digital Video Recorders. Yes, other game consoles - Nintendo Wii and PSP 3 are also supported.

You can also get a PlayOn (www.playon.tv) download, for each of the game consoles, and in addition to Netflix, you will be able to watch Hulu, CBS, YouTube, as well as a whole bunch of other channels - but for those you will need to download a PlayOn plugin. Below is a list of what you can get with those plugins:

Crackle

Food Network

Streaming Internet Movies Through a Video Game Console to Your TV
Internet Enabled HD TVs
Some will also connect you to music services, like Pandora or Rhapsody.
Whatever your choice of TV - just check if they offer the service you subscribe to, and you are good to go.
If you are looking for a new HD TV, getting one that's internet enabled will get you a great new TV, and give you an opportunity to ditch the cable company - using streaming services, you can in effect, build your own entertainment channels - things you want to watch, when you want to watch them, for a lot less than the cable company charges.
Video Game Consoles
Streaming YouTube to Your Big-screen TV
Watch Digital Content with Digital Media Players
Unlikely entrants into the streaming TV business are hard drive manufacturers. Facing a stagnant market for computer hard drives, they decided to package their hard drives with USB ports and internet connectivity - and presto - another way to stream TV and movies to your TV. Actually, most of the devices, in addition to letting you stream from the internet, also provide ability to stream from your computer, and to save music, photos, videos on the device and then steam to your TV.While at the first glance these devices might seem overdone, being able to put all your photos, music, videos on the device serves as a form of backup, and of course you get to view stuff on a nice TV, not on a dinky computer screen.

Steaming Videos Using Windows Media Center Extender
If you have stuff like photos, video or music on you PC that you would like to enjoy on widescreen television, you can go for Media Center ExtendersBoxes like Linksys DMA2100 and D-Link DSM 750 will do the job. They can be pricey, though, and your PC needs to be running Windows Media Center. Personally I would skip them - there is so much other, simpler stuff out there.
Streaming Internet on your TV Using Your Old Laptop
Then you can connect the copmuter to the internet, get thel Boxee - it's a free software for Mac, Windows and Linux that will let you watch streaming videos, music and photos from numerous sources including YouTube, Flickr, Pandora, CNN, and Last.fm, even BBC. Then connect the laptop to your TV using standard cables, grab a wireless keyboard and mouse and you are good to go.
Of course for things like Amazon VOD or Netflix you don't even need Boxee.
Internet Videos on TV via Apple TV
Apple TV MC572LL/A (2010)
Cheapest way to stream over internet
Redbox - one more option is coming for streaming TV and movies.
Redbox, which is owned by Coinstar, is going to outsource the actual streaming of the movies to another company - people in the know mention either Amazon or Hulu, though obviously nobody will say anything on the record. Another interesting tidbit - story has it that Amazon is thinking of adding a subscription streaming service in addition to its existing Video on Demand service.
Whatever comes out of these negotiations, the more the better. As the competition for streaming TV and movies heats up, we will all be winners, since the prices will come down even lower.
