While Street Fighter IV features models and backgrounds rendered in 3D, the gameplay remains on a traditional 2D plane. Producer Yoshinori Ono has stated that he wanted to keep the game closer to Street Fighter II. A new system called "Focus Attacks" ("Saving Attack" for the Japanese version) has been introduced, as well as Ultra moves. The focus attack is a move that allows the player to absorb an attack and launch a counter attack, and it is performed by pressing the medium punch and kick buttons simultaneously. The traditional six-button control scheme returns, with new features and special moves integrated into the input system, mixing classic gameplay with additional innovations. (read more)

Poll: Which version are you picking up?
I'm undecided on which console (I own both a 360 and a PS3) and I'm getting the SF4 FightPad or the Normal FightStick (so control wise, they even imo). It will come down to Online (360) vs My other Fighters on PS3 and a better controller for a partner (PS3). I am getting the Limited/Collector's Edition of the Game though.

Street Fighter Vs. Mortal Kombat
Since the early 1990s, the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter franchises have maintained a strong rivalry. It all began back when Kombat creator Ed Boon claimed that his game would "kick Street Fighter's ass,"... a statement he continues to make to this day. Capcom, naturally, never took kindly to such words, and accused the gorier fighting game of simply imitating the greatness of its Street Fighter franchise. Now that both Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and Street Fighter IV are going to be hitting stores in the near future, the trash taking is not likely to end anytime soon.
So, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are having a bit of rivalry... whose side are you on??

Street Fighter IV is keeping the series patented 2D gameplay, but using 3D elements to bring it up to graphical speed.

FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
- When will Street Fighter 4 be released?
- Capcom has announced the release date for the console versions of its anticipated brawler Street Fighter IV, and it is Febuary 17, 2009. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will launch on the same day. A PC version is in the works, but will come post-console release.
- Where can I download a Street Fighter IV demo?
- I hate to be the bearer of bad news here :( but according to Kramez from Capcom there will be no SFIV Demo. His exact quote was: "Sorry, guys, but there will not be a demo of SFIV. You want a demo? Get Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and start brushing up on your SF skillz! "
- What are the advantages of using the arcade stick as apposed to a normal controller?
- For a game like Street Fighter the arcade stick definitely has the upper hand. The joystick makes it much easier to perform the special moves in the game. I love the amount of control that the joysticks give you, so I will tell you that it does improve gameplay and control.

No one plays the same game for fifteen years because of the way it looks. It's the gameplay, stupid, and in that regard, Street Fighter 4 is already proven. So a toast, then: may the online mode, rebalancing and new character commands keep Street Fighter relevant for another fifteen years.
