ENDING A STREET FIGHT
Are you prepared to defend yourself against an attack like this? You should be.
Knowing what to do in a street fight is an important part of keeping yourself - and those you care about - safe from harm.
There is no reason to feel helpless or intimidated when confronted with violence.
A few basic tools can help you to protect yourself against any attacker.
Even the largest, toughest, most vicious opponent has weaknesses. The secret to winning a street fight is learning these weaknesses and training to take advantage of them.
There are several easy-to-learn street fighting "secrets" that can put an end to the attack right away. Some examples:
- a well placed finger-jab to the eyes
- a swift kick to the groin
- solid shots to the solar plexus and/or throat
- a forceful sidekick to the knee or shin
- an unexpected, well connected elbow to the head.
You don't need to be a black belt. You don't even need to be in great shape to put up an intelligent defense when assaulted.
I teach practical street fighting techniques in my community at little or no cost. I strongly recommend that you seek out experienced martial artists in your area that can work with you on effective, reality-based techniques. You don't necessarily need to find a school or gym. I give lessons at my home or at the homes of my students.

Defending Against the Knife in a Street Fight
A street fight is taken to a whole new level as soon as a weapon is introduced. The longer a fight goes on, the more likely it is that weapons will come into play.
Edged weapons are especially a concern. They are easy to obtain, easy to conceal, and potentially deadly.
When faced with an opponent who is armed with a knife, you should immediately recognize that your life is at stake. If at all possible GET AWAY FROM THE SITUATION.
If that is not an option, try to MAINTAIN DISTANCE by:
a) circling away from the attacker
b) low, forceful sidekicks aimed at the knee or shin
c) a combination of both
If the assailant is able to get within striking distance, be prepared to BLOCK FORCEFULLY against slashing and thrusting attacks. You can actually inflict lots of pain and damage on the attacker's forearms with some skillful blocking.
Always COUNTER ATTACK with the block, or immediately following it. Your best options are probably eye jabs and strikes to the groin. If the fight is at very close range, you can make use of headbutts and elbows.
Use KNIFE DISARMS whenever possible. These require a considerable level of skill and training to execute successfully. Be sure to learn from an experienced teacher and TRAIN HARD.
