Stress

How does stress effect you directly? When our bodies find that something is in a way threatening us, (e.g. a test, an interview, or just life) we have stress. It shuts down the part of our brain that is responsible for long term memory which makes it harder for us to remember facts. Also, if the chemicals that stress produces stays in our brain for too long then it starts to destroy brain cells.

Managing Stress

lowering stress
Here are 2 quick ways that you can easily calm down to lower your stress level.
  • Focus on one area of your body at a time. Physically tense the muscles in that area and then relax it. Start from your head and work down.
  • Try breathing exercises. For a few minutes close your eyes and focus in the area between them. Start to breath slower and slower making each breath thinner until you get to a stable rate. Sit there for as long as you want.

Meditation to lower stress

Meditation is scientifically proven to lower stress and actually improve brain function.

Why do you forget?

Why you forget
There are more reasons then just stress as a cause to why we forget things.
  • You're not interested
  • Not concentrating
  • You learned it too long ago
  • There is too much information
  • The information is not organized
  • Not enough "brain links" or "mental links" (you will learn later)

Learning More About Memory

I'll tell you what. Most of what I know about memory has come from this book. It is unbelievable how much information just this one small book packs, and it can be read within just one day.

A few topics mentioned in this book:

1. Your mental filing system (mental links)
2. Always remember phone numbers
3. Remember speeches and jokes
4. Remembering what you read
5. Remembering a deck of cards
