Stress Relief? It's no joke, but it has become something of a joke to the thousands of men, women, and children who are living in the 21st century and experiencing the frantic pace of both work and play. Stress can take many forms. It isn't just the negative experiences of life that can create stress. Being too busy, even though participating in a multitude of fun-filled activities, can result in excessive surges of adrenaline in the body that leave us fatigued and emotionally drained.

Stress relief concerns discovering ways to ease our pressures, both mental and physical, that build up when we are faced with stressful situations. We cannot avoid stress, but we can at least reduce it by learning how to create the opposite of the stress response; which is the relaxation response. The relaxation response should reduce the production of stress hormones which, in turn, leads to a relaxation of the muscles and an increased blood flow to the brain.

To maintain a daily stress relief practice you need to schedule a set time, either once or twice a day, for your stress relief practice. Remember you need to take charge of your emotions, your thoughts, your environment, and the way you cope with your problems. Focus on a balanced life. Consider better time management, as this will lead to stress reduction. When you're stretched too thin it's difficult to stay calm and focused. But if you plan ahead, you can avoid these stressfull pitfalls. Listed below are some ideas for creating relaxation responses through a daily stress relief program.

Find a secluded place in your home, office or outdoors where you can relax without interruptions. Relax and gather your thoughts. You'll find that giving yourself a bit of distance from problems can bring clarity to any stressful situation. An old favorite is to take a relaxing bath with soft music, candles and a mug of your favorite drink. Forget about everything else for an hour or so and you will begin to feel calmer. If you cannot take a relaxing bath, then try getting comfortable in a relaxing position. Keep your spine straight by sitting in a chair or on the floor. You could try a cross-legged or lotus position.

Take charge of your emotions by channelling your feelings instead of bottling them up. Communicate your concerns in a frank but respectful way. Don't bury your head in the sand! When you ask someone to change their behavior, also be willing to compromise yourself. Improving relationships is vital for relieving stress among family, friends and colleagues.

And this is precisely what makes this book such a gem- there's virtually something in it for everyone. If you don't like one technique, no problem, just go to the next chapter and try another one until you find one that suits you.

A handy book that should help de-stress a lot of people, I give it 5 stars easy. Can also recommend The Sixty-Second Motivator for readers who have trouble getting motivated to do healthy things regularly- like practice relaxation techniques!

Manage Your Stress Relief With These Easy Steps 

Whatever your stress source it can put you in a difficult predictament. When you feel stress building up, keep these relief tips in mind and they will help you manage and overcome your stress.

1. Slow the pace of your life down. Don't eat while driving or watching TV. Make it your mission in life to eat, work and walk at a more relaxed pace. Stress comes from too much frantic activity in your daily life. Do all in your power to slow it down.

2. Focus on enjoyable activities. Is there a winning computer game you can play, a walk in a nearby park, a vigorous game of squash; all will help you get away from the stresses in your life. By focusing your mind on things other than your problems, you can keep your stress at bay.

3. Don't eat at your desk and then go straight back to work. Take a break or go for a walk after your meal for relaxation and to ensure your food is digesting.

4. The simple things in life like the weather, birds and scenery often pass unnoticed. So, make it a point to go outside at least once a day to observe these things, and you will find that your stress will be much reduced. A few minutes in the fresh air every day has a positive effect on your outlook.

5. More often than not you may find your mind racing due to you worrying about problems. This is when you have to take a few deep breaths and focus on your surroundings, a book, anything that will take your mind off these worriesome thoughts.

6. Don't work continuously for long hours. Take short breaks during your working day to relax.

7. Never withhold your feelings to yourself for long periods of time. Find a safe place or a trusting person to allow you to express your feelings. If necessary, why not join a group or online community of like-minded people?

8. Deep breathing is one of the most effective stress relief tips. To reduce stress, you have to breathe deeply by inhaling through your nose, pulling all the air into the depths of your lungs. Hold this position for a count of six and then exhale through the mouth for a further count of six. This has to be repeated for a few minutes, but take care not to hyperventilate. Once you feel light-headed or dizzy, resume normal breathing.

9. Take time from your hectic schedule to do something relaxing and fun. It can be anything like dancing, listening to music, hiking, praying, walking on the beach or swimming. List the activities that you enjoy doing and do at least two of them everyday.

It is not necessary to take long vacations to attempt to find stress relief. You are much more likely to achieve your stress relief goals practising these small activities. These are the real stress busters.
