Strider PREbike Balance Running Bike

If your child has learned how to walk, they are ready for the Strider PREbike Balance Running Bike. Children less than 2 years old have happily accepted the challenge.

Balance bikes are becoming more and more popular as an option for children's ride on toys. Many parents feel that their child will more effectively learn to balance on this type of bike as opposed to tricycles or bicycles with training wheels. Your child can develop coordination and confidence to make the eventual transition to a pedal bike.

If you are trying to decide what to purchase for your child for Christmas in 2011, you might consider the Strider as a great gift that your toddler will absolutely love and will get to use for years. I would consider the Strider Balance Bike to be among the best Christmas gift ideas of the year.

When Should Your Child Start Riding a Strider PREbike Balance Running Bike

New Rider on a Strider

Here's a child at 19 months of age getting along just fine on her Strider. This petite little girl is actually an inch shorter than the recommended minimum height for the balance bike, but somehow she is making it work, and enjoying the heck out of it. She can push herself along with her feet very slowly, at first. I'll bet that in a few weeks, with practice, she'll be gliding along with her feet off the ground.

Strider PREbike Balance Running Bike Reviews

I found reviews from more than 150 people who had purchased the Strider Balance Bike. Most people who wrote reviews about the Strider were pleased at how easy it is for the children to get on it and ride, even at 2 years old or less.

I've summarized some of the comments that were made by consumers who had purchased the Strider Balance Bike for their child:

  • Easy to assemble with all necessary parts included

  • The bike is light enough that my child can even carry it around

  • Easy to ride and a wonderful way to learn balance and gain confidence

  • After 2 weeks on the Strider, our 4-year old was ready to ride a 2 wheeler without training wheels

  • I wish they had these when I was a kid

  • The size and weight of this bike is perfect for its intended age group

  • Though the price of the Strider is comparable to other balance bikes, some people complained that the price seems a little steep

"After hundreds of miles, this Strider is holding up fine and is ready for the next kid." Just don't wait until your child is older, because you may find that after a short time on the Strider, they will be prepared to ride a two-wheeled pedal bike without training wheels, already.

Have You Had Any Experience With the Strider Balance Bike?

Please write your own review from your experience or research. What do you think of the idea of children learning to ride a bike by starting with a running bike instead of a tricycle or a pedal bike with training wheels? If you were 3 years old, which would you rather ride?

Gosh! I had no idea that these bikes existed. I suppose I was lucky to learn to ride a plain old two wheeler on the gravel road (I still have the scars to prove it).

A few kids I know have the wooden version of this bike. It seems to work very well for them.

It's amazing to see such a tiny little girl doing so well on this kind of bike! It really does seem to make a lot of sense as an alternative to starting off with tricycles or bikes with training wheels. I'll have to tell my nephew and his wife about this for their now-6-months-old little girl who was 1 month early and still extremely petite.
