How To String Tomatoes

String Tomatoes, You Say?

Stringing, staking or caging tomatoes helps our tomato plants grow better and product more vegetables. Without support, you risk your stems breaking and drooping and your precious tomatoes will lay in the soil rotting away and ruining all the work you put into your garden.

Tomato Stringing Method

Tomato stringing is a fairly new method and is similar to growing plants on a trellis. You are training your plants to grow upward instead of sprawling outward. Stringing also takes up less room in your garden and easier to clean up in the fall. Stringing is simple and involves tying the base of the tomato plant to an overhead bar. The tomato plant is trained to grow up the string.

Tie plants at the base and then to overhead bar.

Make sure that stems and branches are tied securely but not tight enough to damage the stems.

As plants grow make sure that any new stems or branches are tied to the string
