How do you get people to find your Squidoo Lenses

On this page, you'll find some links to places you can submit your Squidoo lenses to so that you can get more web traffic to your lens.

Google is usually the main source of traffic to my lenses, but to rank well in Google takes other websites linking to you. There is an ever increasing number of Squidoo friendly directories and forums where you can promote your lenses and get backlinks in the process. There's also other search engines, directories, and social networking sites where people might find your lens.

Also check out my answer to What is squidoo and how do you make money with squidoo? on WebAnswers.com - it's the second answer down.

Love Blinks

Revenue Sharing Social Bookmark / Article Sharing Sites

There are some sites that will pay you to submit content and at the same time you can promote your Squidoo lenses. I just started getting into these so I can't tell you if you really do earn money from these sites.
Redgage.com
(referral link) This is a revenue sharing site where you can submit content, but the way they pay you is pretty unique, and they give you a rate per 1000 pageviews that you will earn instead of you giving them your Adsense code. I like the design of this site. You can submit photos, videos, blogs, but also links. I have submitted a few links to my Squidoo lenses and got a few views pretty quickly, probably by other members of the site.
Love Blinks
(referral link) Create lists of sites you love which can be Squidoo lenses. Check out the Love Blinks for Backlinks Squidoo lens for more information.
Snipsly
They split adsense 80/20 with you, in your favor. You can submit articles that include links in them, but you must not violate the rules. Each article you submit must be at least 3 sentences. It's built on Wordpress, and seems to work pretty well. The only thing I didn't really like is that on your article page, they list "Relevant Links" and some of them were not all that relevant and I didn't really like them on there.
Best Reviewer
(referral link) Best Reviewer lets you earn adsense money for Top lists that you create (like top 10 of something) and you can link back to your Squidoo lenses. Read Poddy's Best Reviewer Lens for information on how to best do so. If you want to see what some "Tops" look like, check out my most recent tops.
Shetoldme.com
(referral link) UPDATE: THEY NOW THEY NOW CHARGE A $12/YEAR OR $5/MONTH MEMBERSHIP TO POST ON THIS SITE Shetoldme.com is a site that lets you post articles, videos, and images. People can then vote your content up if it's good. It says you can submit your own content which is nice. This Hubpages article is useful for writing your Shetoldme or other revenue sharing social bookmarking links so that you know what keywords to put in them to perhaps make money: Shetoldme How To Write Your Bookmarks.

Start with Keyword Research

Some of my Squidoo lenses get more visitors than others. Some don't get any visitors at all. I didn't do any keyword research when I started out on Squidoo, and some lenses were a hit, and some weren't. If you do keyword research, you may increase the chance of your lens being a success.

You can pick keywords to target with your lens that have a good ratio of how many people are searching for your targeted keyword vs how competitive it is.

I won't get into keyword research here but there's a lens about it How to do Keyword Research for Squidoo.

Squidoography has a great Squidoo SEO article where Andrew explains how he makes and optimizes lenses.

Squidoocool recently mentioned using Bumpzee and I have found that when I submit my lens URL to Bumpzee, google will find it in an hour or so. (2/16/09- Bumpzee site taken down with message saying it will be back)

Captain Squid suggests promoting your lens with Zimbio. Zimbo is nofollow but I do get hits on my lenses from people clicking through from Zimbio.

Search Engines

The Big 3
The big 3 search engines are Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft's Bing. I get by far the most hits from Google. It's better for these search engines to find your lenses themselves than to submit your URL to them. They will find your page when other pages already in their index are linking to it. Sometimes it takes Yahoo a long time to notice my lenses but it is nice when it does.

There are some links below to other search engines you can try out but I don't really submit to these anymore because I did not get a whole lot of traffic from them.
Scrub The Web - Add URL
Add Your URL To Scrub The Web. Requires e-mail confirmation.
Walhello Search Engine - Submit URL
Under their "Priority Submission" there is a place you can submit your url to them for free, but they won't guarantee it will be listed.
Gigablast

Got Squidoo Questions?

If you have Squidoo questions, check out The Answer Deck.

If you don't find an answer there, you can ask your fellow lensmasters at SquidU, Squidoo's official forum.

Squidoo Groups

Squidoo Groups are a good way to get traffic, or better yet, backlinks to your lenses. check out A Guide to Groups for Lensmasters to learn more about groups.

You can join groups that others have created or create your own at Squidoo Groups. Check the PageRank of a group (or any webpage) here. PageRank is on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best. Basically, Google will like you more if you are linked to from pages with higher PageRank.

You can read a simple explanation of PageRank here if you are new to the term.

It's best for your lens to be linked to from the main page of a group which will probably have a higher PageRank than the link to all lenses in the group.

If you have a MonkeyBrain lens be sure to add it to my new MonkeyBrain group! It's new so it doesn't have PageRank yet, but lots of great lenses are joining. I'll put you on the main page if I accept your lens (I'll likely accept it if it isn't spam.)

Lensmaster Tools and Utilities - Custom Google Search for Squidoo

Lensmaster Tools and Utilities by thefluffanutta has custom Google search engines for Squidoo groups and lenses that seem to work better for me than Squidoo's search engine! The group search engine would be a great way to find Squidoo Groups to join to get your lens more visitors.

The lens has a lot of other good stuff too, so check it out. The custom search engines are really useful because sometimes Squidoo's search doesn't find exactly what I want.

Squidoo Images

You can use pictures in your lens to liven them up and even get hits from Google Images! Make sure you have permission to use whatever pictures you put in your lens. If you don't know where to find pictures, one site you might be able to find something at is pdphoto.org. That's where I found the macro picture of the dollar. Sometimes I use pictures from Wikipedia Commons. Another place to check is Gimp Savvy - their photos are mostly animal, plant, and space photos there thanks to 3 US government agencies that seem to take a lot of pictures.

Check out the Traffic from Image Searches lens for some tips on getting traffic to your lens from image searches.

ALLPOSTERS - put images of posters in your lenses

Affiliate Programs

Besides promoting your Squidoo lenses, you can also make money using various affiliate programs on Squidoo other than Amazon, eBay, Cafepress, and Zazzle. For instance, you could become an affiliate of All Posters and recommend different posters on your lens like I did with my 7 Cool Dragon Posters lens. I can't say I have made much money from selling posters on that lens, but it does get some traffic from Google Images which is nice.

Make Money with Affiliate Programs

Squidoo is great because you can earn money from Amazon or eBay affiliate programs, but what if you want to branch out and make money using other affiliate programs? Here are the ones I like!
