    I'm glad you gave a realistic estimate of how long it takes to write a single quality article. I've heard claims from people that they churn out 50 articles a day for bum marketing, which if it was ever possible, isn't any more, now that Google and the top directories have cracked down on low-quality submissions.

    Good article, but I didn't see any discussion of duplicate content issues. I have 2 questions that I'm looking for definitive answers on:

    1. Should the same article be submitted to more than 1 directory?
    2. Should you submit articles which are on your website already to article directories?

    Hi David,

    Thanks for your questions--

    1. Should the same article be submitted to more than 1 directory?

    Most definitely. Free reprint articles are made to be republished over and over again. That is how you can build links to your website and bring exposure to your business.

    Article submissions simply involve sharing content legitimately with other sites on the web who wish to publish it.

    Press releases work in a similar way, and a whole load of other online content is syndicated too, not just article submissions.

    While the search engines don’t see it as a problem if sites contain the same content, this doesn’t mean that they want to show their users the same article on a ton of different sites in the search results; they want to show a variety of different content that may be helpful to the user.

    So they do recognize duplicate content, but that doesn’t mean they penalize sites because of it– syndicated content plays a big part on the web and how the web works (eg. RSS provides an easy method to spread syndicated content).

    Article submissions increase your chances of one of your articles showing up on one of the sites on which it is published when a user searches on a particular topic. The more articles you have out there, and the more sites your articles are published on, the more chances you have that a search engine user will click to read your article when searching for something.

    2. Should you submit articles which are on your website already to article directories?

    Great question--it's best to keep the content on your own site unique. If you have articles on your site that you wish to submit for article marketing, re-write them so that they are unique. I do this with my blog--I publish my monthly blog posts, then I re-write each blog post and submit it as an article.

    A+ on this lens! I also suggest writing quality articles and offering to give a popular blog in your market / niche exclusive rights to publish it (of course with the stipulation that a link and resource box leading back to your web site is included). You'd be a guest blogger. If its a popular blog with a lot of readers and holds authority status with the search engines. Then you'll not only get lots of new traffic to your site but a boost in your search engine rankings. I'd rather have one powerful backlink from an authority site than hundreds of backlinks from low authority / quaility sites. Of course many links can't hurt.

    Wow, you've provided us an awesome dose of content-rich resources on everything we need to know about article marketing. I just started article marketing via SubmitYourArticle.com and am already seeing tangible results with web hits from all over the world. Although I know that it usually takes 4-5 months to gain income from article marketing. I'm a writer and I know that a lot more people would be submitting to article sites if they let go of their writing fear and just did it!     Hi Steve,
    I am a young 71 yr old who set up his online biz just over 2 years ago - took me nearly a year to get around to writing or submitting any articles though because of the 'massive' learning curve REAL Beginners need to go through to get up and running.
    Then end product of that is that my whole business is based around helping REAL beginners sort out their heads on 'all the things' that far too many folk talk about and far to few SHOW beginners how to do things.
    Yours is the most comprehensive, supportive and helpful set of information 'anyone' will find on article writing and I am continually recommending your resources.
    I really must get around to writing more articles - but being a pensioner my business is my hobby and I don't always do 'everything' as often as I know I should.

    I teach article marketing everyday to lots of folks, so I have used and reviewed every article submission service out there, but have seen the most tangible results with your service. No dummy blogs set up for submissions - just real article submissions. People need to get beyond the myth of quantity - it's all about quality submission.

    This my firs visit to your lens, and I just want to say what a great source of information on article marketing. I have just recently started article marketing myself. As a matter of fact I am a member of SubmitYourArticle.com. I want to use this lens for a testimonial of your program. I have only written about 4 articles. (I will be increasing that to 8 a month as per your instructions.)

    One of my articles titled "Want To Start A Home Based Business? Read This First." is currently running on page 1 with those the key words. My article is 5th on the page out of 352,000,000 websites. "WOW' You can put the title of my article in google search to see for yourself. Thanks for a great program and continue writing great content.

    Thanks in good part to Steve Shaw and Sharon or Submit your Article, I feel that my general presentation has improved a lot. My principal mistake was in pushing my website too much, I think. Now I'm trying a little bio and sliding in the website bit rather more tactfully.

    All I do all day and everyday is write..write and write and this is coming from someone whose worse subject was English because I hated writing. It is funny what you will do and learn to love when the money is coming in. Article marketing is 90% of my marketing online...and OHHH BTW...Nice lens! *****stars.

    I've been using submityourarticle.com for several months now. I've found that the more articles I write, the more they get picked up for feeds, and the more links back to my own site I realize. Since starting with article marketing, I've had a significantly higher page ranking on Google and see my referral from the article sites to my website increasing in leaps and bounds. I'll continue to use the site for my article marketing, since it is clearly the highest quality, most intuitive, and most user friendly service out there.

    Only thing that I think that you missed is the necessity for having a strong headline for your articles. I have found that no matter what the article is about-the article with the strongest heads get the greatest play. I often spend more time writing my headline than the article itself.

    After I responded to this article I was surprised to see that my article "Free terminal, lease or buy" is now one of top ten articles on leasing credit card terminals on Google and it is not a position that I paid for! If you enter the key words "credit card machines lease or buy" its on the first page.

    I used your service for several months with very positive results. I temporarily suspended my account so I could get about 10 articles ahead in my pipeline. Here is why. I use your article leveraging strategy for another important reason. I write Bible articles, and want to be precise in my phrasing. When using your advanced leveraging system, it forces me to rephrase sentences - and I often like the revision better than the original! I then take these better phrases and produce a "new" final draft that now becomes my new original - and I am much happier with what I have produced. That is another reason submitting two articles a month is a good strategy for me. I spend time in your system! (I currently have 7 more - so I plan on being live again soon!)

    I always tell people, there are no rules for measuring the success of article marketing, a cautionary move like you saying that it's a "long-term" strategy. Yet, I had one of my "10 Rules For" articles picked up by an ezine with 80,000 subscribers and my inbox was humming for a few days. I ended up with 3 new ghostwriting clients immediately, which translated into about $600/month extra cash. I credit the name of the article and the fact that it delivered what it promised, for its success.

    This lens is awesome! I love the simplicity of the information and ease of application of the principles presented.

    I love SubmitYourArticle as it saves me so much time in publishing my articles and I especially like the fact that their editors look at the article first and make sure it fits the standards before sending it out to the publishers.

    I write for more fun then profit. I enjoy the process and I like the fact that it really boost my Google ratings. Profit will come and I appreciate SubmitYourArticle and what they do so well.

    iS THER A WAY OF TESTING WHETHER A TARGET MARKET IS USING ONLINE ARTICLES. Presumably the catagories gives some indication but is there a way of knowing how many views, what sources and other general data? I assume this needs to be established before one goes to teh trouble of writing?

    I started article marketing when my virtual assistant suggested it. It's only been a few months but I've already seen increased traffic to my website. When people want information on dating and romantic relationships they can now easily find me when they Google, and that's largely due to my article marketing.

    My first website got most of its beginning traffic through articles I had submitted to Ezine Articles and Go Articles. The articles themselves would rank well for my keywords even when my site was still off in the wild blue yonder of the SERPs. And people would click through and reach my site.

    If I hadn't done that I would have had no traffic in the beginning and almost no clue how to get it. So it was basically how I started getting traffic. In present time I also get a lot more traffic if and when I submit articles.

    The key is to get yourself to write unique articles regularly instead of putting it off till later while you ... I dunno, tweak your Wordpress Plugins? Fiddle with code ... read your email offers, chat on forums ... and another day goes by ...

    I am trying to get myself to write more often. Not just content, but also articles. It is a point of discipline. I wonder what would happen if I forced myself to write something every day before I even check my email!

    Yes, this lens was very helpful, and I think you might have covered it all. This really is "the ultimate"!

    My article marketing story: I started submitting articles with SubmitYOURArticle.com about 2 years ago, and the results have been more than I ever expected!

    I have been asked to have one of my articles appear in a book (a real print book), I've had a few that were picked up by major ezines that resulted in lots of traffic too. Whenever I start a new site article marketing the first thing I do--it works!
