Succeeding with Affiliate Programs

Getting started as an affiliate.

First off, you need to educate yourself on how affiliate marketing really works. Succeeding with affiliate programs can be a tough challenge when you don't know the basics of where to start or what to look for after you get involved. Although you don't have to be a marketing guru to succeed, you need to understand what works, how it works and why it works the way it does.

Where do you start?

There are many things you need to learn about such as; marketing, list building, traffic generation, splash pages, social networking, blogging, autoresponders, article writing, search engine optimization(SEO) and traffic exchanges, to name a few. If you're really serious about succeeding in the Internet marketing world, you should start learning all you can about these areas.

What does it take to become a successful affiliate? What are the ingredients of an affiliate marketing success story? Is there a magic button or shortcut to affiliate marketing glory?

All these questions play around in the minds of affiliates who want to make it big in this business. Although it is viewed as one of the easiest and most effective ways to earn money online, it's not as easy as it may sound to really succeed and make a profit.

The smart affiliate plans every action and executes it. He always maximizes the potential to earn by utilizing the right tools necessary for a successful business. And he is always learning more about everything it takes to stay on top of his game, whatever it may be.

Affiliate Marketing Facts and Tips

It truly amazes me how many people think that they can just sign up for an affiliate program and start cashing their checks. I guess it's not all their fault, with all the hype floating around in the air surrounding these programs.

So how are you supposed to make money as an affiliate?

What you should be looking for when joining an affiliate program...

First and foremost, you must get involved with a program you actually believe in. One that you are passionate about and are totally convinced that it will help people achieve whatever their goals may be when they join. If you jump on the band wagon of every new program that comes along, you will not only reduce your effectiveness you will also loose interest very quickly when you are not making money from it.

Most people trying to make money on-line tend to get in on a program based on all the hype surrounding it and really have no idea of what they want to accomplish by becoming a member. They just want to make tons of money like whoever is promoting it tells them they can, quit their day job and move to a secluded island and retire; which totally defeats the purpose of joining in the first place. Well, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but it simply doesn't work that way.

Do your due diligence before you join; no excuses here...

Before you join, you must do your homework and know who is running it, and if possible, who your sponsor will be. A good successful sponsor can be like money in the bank. Try to find someone with a proven track record and do what they do. Don't try to re-invent the wheel. It's almost imperative that you have a mentor, someone who really cares that you are a member and one that you can contact for help on a regular basis.

Don't be shy, email or call them, ask questions and pick their brain about how the program is working for them. And yes, ask them how much money they have made with it. While they may not be totally truthful, and you shouldn't expect them to reveal exact dollars and cents, at least you will get a feel for who they are and what their goals are for being involved with it.

5 Reasons You Should Use Article Marketing

Whether you run a business totally online, or you operate a brick-and-mortar business and have a supplemental website, you need to implement article marketing. If you aren't marketing your business with articles, you're missing a huge chunk of the marketing pie. Let me give you a few reasons why.

1. Article marketing is free. Every business owner knows that advertising isn't cheap. Every newspaper or magazine ad you run costs you dearly. By spending just a little extra time writing and submitting several articles each month, you'll save quite a bit of money. Best yet, article marketing doesn't cost you a dime--just a few hours every week.

2. Article marketing brands your business. Have you ever wondered how some businesses seem to become so well known in such a short amount of time? They're getting their name out there. They're giving away something of value for free to their potential customers. Your articles will brand your business and make it a well-known name.

3. Article marketing makes you an expert. If you write articles about the subjects you know well, you'll quickly become known as an expert in your field. Do you run a website on bird watching? Writing and submitting fifty articles on bird watching will show people that you know what you're talking about.

4. Article marketing teaches you how to relate to people. You can't write a bunch of articles without learning how to communicate effectively. The more you write, the more you'll learn how to get your message across in a friendly, personal tone.

5. Article marketing creates back links to your website. Without getting into the technical details of this, back links to your website are good and you'll want lots of them. Back links help boost your rankings in the search engines, thus gaining more exposure for your website.

Remember that article marketing isn't the cure-all answer to advertising your business; it's one piece of the pie. You also can't submit a handful of articles one time and expect to see results.

Article marketing requires persistence and patience. You should plan to spend a certain number of hours each week writing and submitting articles to promote your business. Pencil in this time faithfully and stick to it. Within a few months (maybe even a few short weeks!), you'll begin to see the results of your hard work pay off.

Basic Steps to Follow before becoming an Affiliate Marketer

* Find a program you believe in and disregard all the bells and whistles. Get to the guts of the actual reason it exists and then determine if it's something you can really believe in. If the only reason you are signing up in the first place is to get rich quick, then don't even bother. You're wasting your time.

* Quit jumping on every program that comes along and find a legitimate one that you have done your homework on and can devote all your attention to for at least one year, minimum. Persistence and focus should be your key points. This gives you name recognition as well as brands you as someone who is serious.

* Find out who your sponsor will be if at all possible. Ask them to be your mentor. If they don't response to your email or phone call within a reasonable length of time, move on to another one.

* Plan your trip, and follow your plan. Set some goals and stick to them. Get serious with yourself, do some soul searching and find out if what you are getting involved with will really help others. One of your goals should be to get into a program that will allow you to really serve the members that will follow behind you and take into account that they were probably once where you were when you started.

If you will implement the guidelines above when you consider becoming an affiliate marketer you will find yourself getting involved for all the right reasons and realize that it's not all about just making money. It's about what you are giving back that means even more.
