My journey into affiliate marketing
Although I have had a minor web presence over the last 10 years, I was certainly not what you might call a webmaster by any means. I had a website or two to help promote offline businesses and dabbled here and there. I even managed to make about $50-a-year by accident with Google AdSense. But, by and large, the internet was a huge mystery to me.
Of course, I often heard about people who were making a living online - purely online - but I just couldn't see how, at least, not unless I already had a successful offline business like a shop of great product, service or similar that I could sell even more profitably all over the world online.
I even played around with the idea of buying and selling on eBay, I had heard of others doing it, and I still think that is probably a great source of income for many people, but although I fantasized about being able to run my own business online, neither of these options held much appeal - and may even prove as difficult to do as my present occupation.
You see, I have been disabled for several years now, and find it difficult to do many 'proper' jobs as they involve either too much sitting on stiff seats, walking or standing. Proplonged spells of any of these activities spell agony and cannot be maintained.
I tutored a little, when the opportunities arose, and I wrote a bit, and although I thoroughly enjoyed all this, the work (therefore the income) was not constant and proved inadequate. I then tried some offline MLM, and although I made a few pounds, it was difficult for me physically. All-in-all, since my stroke, I barely made a living offline, never mind online. So, the internet proved more and more appealing to me as it would enable me to work according to my own needs and fulfill something that had been, up till then, a bit of an interest.
So, I did a bit of ebay, but running back an forth from the Post Office and waiting in queues was not working for me. I joined a few affiliate sites, having no idea what I was doing but hearing about it everywhere. I started a new website (that I still quite enjoy) but, as far as income goes, I was still making near to nothing.
I had even dipped my toes in AdWords and, on my very limited budget, soon ran out of funds with nothing to show but a few extra visitors. I obviously wasn't cut out for all this, I thought. If anyone is making a living online, then it's not me.
Then, one day, while trawling the internet (or it might have been clicking for free links to my website) I came across an advert offering a free eBook that would change the way I looked at affiliate marketing, SEO and all that jazz.
Not only was the book free, but they didn't even ask for my email address!
Straight away I could see this was different. The amount of junk email I had accumulated through giving my email for this and that, yet this one asked for - well - nothing at all!
I read the book as soon as I had downloaded it and I was amazed. I read it cover to cover even though it was more substantial than most, but it was GOOD. The content was not only brilliant, but well-written, full of great information and everything I had been looking for,

You read that right.
I've told Google to push off.
Stop spidering me.
I no longer want my online business to depend on its ever
changing whims as to what makes a good or bad ranking.
I don't want to spend time collecting thousands of
backward links then find that they are probably worthless
because the anchor text does not contain a suitable
keyword, or the site does not have sufficient page rank,
or whatever the latest algorithm is.
I don't want to buy expensive cloaking tools and run the
risk of penalization.
I don't want to be bothered about whether a domain has a
static or dynamic IP address or have to use different
hosts to make a network of minisites.
What's that you say ? You don't need fancy tricks - just
provide good relevant content.
My answer ?
Nonsense.
I have a huge content site devoted solely to ClickBank,
the only one of its kind.
If you wanted to find the most relevant content for a
search on the keyword 'ClickBank' don't you think that
would be at the top ?
Well Google used to agree with you.
It was ranked number 2, with only ClickBank.com itself at
number one.
Today it is ranked ... wait for it ... number 426.
It is beaten out of sight by sites which have nothing to
do with ClickBank but happen to mention that keyword once.
I asked a search engine expert about this and he suggested
that it was due to keyword density, in other words too
many mentions of the word ClickBank.
Well that has to be the case - the site is after all a
'Complete Guide to ClickBank'
His advice - try replacing the word ClickBank occasionally
e.g. use 'CB'.
No way.
That was the last straw and became the inspiration for me
to develop a revolutionary approach to getting traffic.
It led to me being called 'The Guru who said goodbye to
Google' in the marketing forums.
And this new approach ?
It uses some of the fundamental pillars of Internet
marketing that you already know - techniques which will
never become obsolete.
But they are combined together in a new way and with a
viral twist that you won't have seen before.
It includes giving out free information in a certain way
