Your Own Successful Home Business

Have you ever wanted to own your own business and be able to work from home?  Many think it is a luxury left to the select lucky few.  Those people are wrong!  It is just as doable for you and I as it is for anyone else - and the good news is with Web 2.0 taking over the internet you can start a home business without pumping a ton of money into it for advertising!  Let's explore some of the reasons people fail - and succeed - at a home business!

Reasons People Fail at Home Businesses

While this list by no means covers all the reasons home businesses fail, it is a comprehensive list of the biggest reasons. You'll need to avoid these at all costs if you want to succeed!
  1. Overhyped Opportunity - While there are a select few who make thousands of dollars their first day, it's highly unlikely that it will happen. There really is no such thing as get-rich-quick.
  2. Poor Quality Products - A lot of opportunities focus so hard on the opportunity that they forget to deliver quality products to the end-consumer.
  3. People Simply Quit - Don't be a quitter! This is YOUR business! Treat it as such. Make a decision to stick with it through good and bad and build yourself a solid business. You can't jump form opportunity and opportunity and expect to be successful! You lose all your credibility that way.
  4. Negative Influences - You are not alone on this! There are going to be people whose greatest desire is to see you fail - and they will remind you time and again that you will if you let them. Stay away from these people! If you can't stay away (I have this problem because most of my negative people are family members) simply thank them for their opinion and advice and politely change the subject. If you listen to and dwell on what these people say then your chances are ever so slim for being successful.
  5. Unrealistic Expectations - A home business is still a business. You still have to invest something in yourself, whether it is time or money or, more likely, a combination of both! Be prepared for this! You just can't get something for nothing - especially a good income stream.

Reasons Why People Succeed at Home Businesses

Again, this isn't a comprehensive list, but it will give you an idea of the things successful people are doing to make their home businesses successful!
  1. Educated Decisions - Successful home business owners research the products they sell and the background to go with it. They also research the market they are trying to reach before jumping in. In short, they educate themselves on the market, the products, and the compensation-costs ratio.
  2. Focus on Success - Those who have been successful with home business (or any business for that matter) stay focused on being successful. This is absolutely essential! They set goals and make a decision to do what it takes to achieve them. Do'nt get sidetracked or derailed by the aformentioned "negative people"!
  3. Don't miss an opportunity to promote your business - I can generally find a way in just about any conversation to mention my website. I don't try to sell anyone anything per se, but I try to find a way to mention what it is I am doing without being pushy. My websites are much better salesman than I am! All you want to do is plant a seed of curiosity.
  4. Never Give Up! - If you are going to be suucessful you have to erase the word quit from your vocabulary. If you make a decision that you will be successful and you stick by it the road may get bumpy for a few minutes, but there will always be something good on the other side! Hang in there!
  5. Diversity - The most successful internet marketers aren't successful with just one product. They have an array of products, most of them affiliates, that they promote like crazy. Get yourself a primary income stream and then look for easy, cheap ways to promote other relevant products. There are a lot of free affiliate programs that pay you when someone uses your link to purchase their products - and it costs you nothing!

Video Resources

Here are some excellent video resources that will give you a heads up in the world of internet marketing.

Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us

Final version now available! http://youtube.com/watch?v=NLlGopyXT_g http://mediatedcultures.net Web 2.0 in just under 5 minutes. This is the 2nd draft, and I plan on doing one more final draft. Please leave comments on what could be changed or improved, or what needs to be excluded or included. Subscribe if you want to be notified when the revision is released. UPDATE: I just added this video to Mojiti where you can actually write your comments into the video itself. It is an exciting experiment in "Video 2.0". Go check it out at http://mojiti.com/kan/2024/3313 and add your voice! Transcripts are now available as well: http://mediatedcultures.net/ksudigg/?p=78 A couple of people have noted that the statement, "XML was created to do just that" (separate form from content) is misleading because CSS enables the same effect with HTML. I tried to integrate CSS into the video, but it ruined the flow. Perhaps in the next draft. My statement on XML is based on the following from xml.com: "In order to appreciate XML, it is important to understand why it was created. XML was created so that richly structured documents could be used over the web. The only viable alternatives, HTML and SGML, are not practical for this purpose. HTML, as we've already discussed, comes bound with a set of semantics and does not provide arbitrary structure." Thank you all for the comments. With your help the next draft will be cleaned up and hopefully free of factual errors. A higher quality version is available for download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?6duzg3zioyd Please note that this is the second draft and the final version will not be available until late February after I review all comments and revise the video. Please return for a new download link at that time. The song is "There's Nothing Impossible" by Deus, available for free at http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/103/ Deus offers music under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 license, yet one more example of the interlinking of people sharing and collaborating this video is attempting to illustrate.
