MLM and the Internet - Secrets to Send Your Successful Online MLM Business into Cyberspace

Having a clear understanding of where network marketing came from is very important in understanding where it's come to. Understanding the history and how long network marketing has been around helps us to realize just how strong of a business model it really is.

The concept is so simple. I recently saw the movie Wall-E. I loved it. How cool is a movie about robots falling in love. I must have told 20 people they just have to see the movie.

Do you think the theater will keep track of that and pay me for the referral. I think not.

Same with a restaurant. I love to eat out, and when I find a restaurant I like, I'm hooked, and I tell everyone. To date, I've never had a call from a restaurant owner to say thanks, you next meal is on the house.

MLM is simply that, and so much more. You get paid to refer people to your great products and your great company (which, by the way is the way you MUST feel about your company and products for the system to work).

I found a great article written by Stephen Barrett, M.D. that talks about MLM's start back in the early 1930's. Here's a little preview:

"After seven years of "experimentation," (Carl) Rehnborg produced food supplements which he gave to his friends to try. According to his son, Sam, who became Nutrilite's president and chief operating officer:

After a certain length of time, Dad would visit his friends to see what results had been obtained. More often than not, he would find the products sitting on the back shelves, unused and forgotten. It had cost them nothing and was therefore, to them, worth nothing . . . It was at this point that he rediscovered a basic principle-that the answer was merely to charge something for the product. When he did, the friends, having paid for the product, ate it, liked it, and further, wanted their friends to have it also. When they asked my dad to sell the product to their friends, he said, 'You sell it to them and I'll pay you a commission.'"

Do you remember the "old school" days of network marketing?

You would invite your five closest friends to a stuffy hotel room and subject them to sitting in the front row listening to a speaker who usually left a lot to be desired?

I know, it's a pretty dismal picture, but that is my recollection.

There was the endless stream of "friends" who never showed up.

I remember vividly calling my soon-to-be ex-friend for the fifth week in a row to see if possibly she would show this week, and she hung up on me!

Can you believe the nerve?

I would put women on the floor while I applied a product to 1/2 of their face that produced results similar to having a mini stroke.

I taught so many ladies how to apply makeup that the whole world should be beautiful.

Well, guess what, those days are gone.

Network Marketing had it's beginning more than 60 years ago and it is finally turned around.

The switch has been flipped on the MLM industry and it is now attracting sharp, smart professionals who are demanding more and more perfection from the company they work with.

Think about it. If you are a doctor or a lawyer, for instance, and you stop working, what happens to your paycheck?

Network marketing has a proven plan for success. It has every advantage of owning your own business, for example, time freedom, the ability to create true financial freedom, and also decision making freedom,

plus....

It has the advantages and security of working for an employer, for example a great product that you don't have to develop yourself, a tried and true accounting system and great customer support.

Objections typically stem from one of three things.

# 1 You've heard, and believe all the MLM myths that are circulating

Myths are just that, myths. For example, did you ever wonder if MLM was a pyramid scheme? Did you ever wonder if it was even legal.

Do yourself a favor, and just educate yourself before you make a decision on these subjects.

# 2 Maybe you've tried MLM before and failed

This doesn't mean MLM doesn't work. Maybe you just had the wrong training or the wrong upline. Again, educate yourself on what MLM really is.

# 3 You have false information or information from and unreliable source

If you want information about MLM, ask someone who is having even a little bit of success. Don't ask your broke brother-in-law who will tell you until he's blue in the face that those things done work, while he changes the channel on his TV.

In addition to the objections, there are several misconceptions about network marketing.

Let's just lay all this on the table up front so we can be on to building a successful online MLM business with none of the bad stuff!

** I just don't have enough money

Nobody has thousands of dollars to invest in a business nowadays. If you feel that beginning a network marketing business will cost a lot of money, this will be one of your concerns.

Actually, if you don't have a lot of money, this will be one of your best reasons to get started in your own MLM business

Here's just a few of the common misconceptions we will take a look at in this section.

** It takes way to much time

Well, yes, it does take a lot of time, but what else are you doing. Five years from now is going to come anyhow, wouldn't it be nice if you no longer had to get up to an alarm clock or answer to a boss.

One of my favorite quotes is "If you keep doing the same thing you've always done, you will keep getting the same thing you've always gotten"

** You've always heard there was a lot of risk in network marketing

In some companies, there is a lot of risk. That's why you want to do your due diligence and make sure you are in with a good company right from the start.

There's nothing worse than putting your heart and soul into something and having it tank on you. (I'm speaking from experience here!)

** You just don't have a clue where to start

This is probably the biggest roadblock there is in getting started. The fear of the unknown is always real in our own minds. For this reason, always make sure that any company you get started with his a proven training program that will take you from start to finish in your new venture

It is said that it doesn't matter when you get into MLM, what matters is when MLM gets into you.

You can know it all, or claim to know it all, and still have nothing. You must keep your attitude in check every day.

It's sort of like working a muscle. You have to exercise it every day to keep it growing strong and staying happy!

Here are some attitude exercises you can do to keep your stress level low and your happiness quotient high:

Pay close attention to your inner voice. Always be aware of what you're saying to yourself when no one else is listening. Your mind believes "you" more than anyone else and what you say to yourself shapes who you are and what you become.

Give yourself a break. If you feel yourself getting stressed or frustrated, go find your dog and take him for a walk. Don't have a dog, how about a bike ride, or just a walk around your block. Just put a pause in your day and you'll be amazed at how good you'll feel.

Help someone, anyone. Volunteer at your church, or perhaps an elderly neighbor who would love to have you pick them up something at the grocery store. When you give, you get back.

Keep a gratitude journal. We, as human beings, sometimes forget just how much we truly have to be grateful for. Writing it down brings it to the forefront and really helps to de-stress and improve our attitude.

Christopher Reeves lived for nine years after a horseback riding accident left him paralyzed from the neck down.

I was always amazed at his attitude and that of his wife, who shortly after his death died of breast cancer.

"There is no doubt in my mind his positive attitude extended his life - probably dramatically. The fact that it didn't allow him to recover function of all limbs is besides the point," said Carol Ryff, a psychology professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Ryff has been studying whether or not high levels of psychological well-being benefit physical health.

So, the moral of this story is, keep your sunny side up.

Building a global network is fun and rewarding. Imagine the possibilities. The world is your playground.

And, last but certainly not least, are the amazing, fabulous friendships you will create on your journey.

To me, the true meaning of network marketing is the person you become along the way and the friendships and relations you create in the course. It's all about the relationships.

Online it may be a little tricker, but if you follow all the right steps and work at it, trust me, they will come.

The first thing you need is a place for them to come. It's kind of tough to invite friends over for dinner if you don't have a stove.

All right, I know, there's always take out, but seriously, if you want people to find you online, you must have a personal website.

It's important to note here also, that when you join a network marketing company, most of the time you will get a replicated website. A replicated website is a site that is provided by your company that are basically carbon copied, with the exception of your own name and contact information being on them.

You're not able to add or subtract. You're not able to interject any of your own personality into these sites. They are static sites provided by your company to do a job.... that job is to sell your prouduct and your opportunity.

It's pretty impersonal, and, frankly, there are a lot of scammers online and with the onslaught of more and more marketers jumping on board, people want to know that you are real. They want to know, like and trust you.

This is where your personal website comes in. This is where people and prospects get to know the person behind the screen.

It takes some basic steps done over and over again, and then, I promise you, people will come.

If you follow the rules and do the deeds, you will have traffic.
