Solving A Sudoku Puzzle

Sudoku has recently become a very popular puzzle craze around the world. In almost every national or global publication, you can find these fun and addictive puzzles next to any wordsearch or crossword puzzle. Many consider a sudoku puzzle to be the Japanese version of the generic crossword puzzle since the Japanese language and its characters are not suitable for the crossword puzzle layout.

A typical sudoku puzzle consist of a 9 X 9 grid with nine 3 X 3 blocks segmented into rows, columns and minigrids.  Each of these units must have the numbers 1-9 listed once in order to complete or solve a sudoku puzzle.  There will already be random starting numbers pre-placed in a variety of cells on the puzzle grid. These numbers are called "givens", and the positioning and amount of them will depend on the difficulty ranking of the sudoku puzzle.  All you need to do is fill in every row, column and block in such a way that each unit contains the numbers 1 through 9 once.

Sudoku puzzles are ideal for whenever you have a few spare minutes to indulge in a little bit of mental reasoning and logical brain drilling. People of all ages and from all backgrounds are finding that sudoku is a great way to keep their minds active and relaxed after a busy work day.
