I've never done cut out sugar cookies, the lemon would add a special flavor. My favorite sugar cooke was called "Angel Crisps" but I haven't had them for years, I think they had alum in them, which I now here is aluminum and don't know if I'd want them.

But I am going to make it for my grand children. Gonna make my children's Christmas joyful. Will use all of my cookware of making cookies this time.

When the kids were little I used to make 3 batches of sugar cookies----it took almost all day--and then when they got home from school, we'd cover the table with newspaper and the kids would decorate the cookies. They had so much fun and still talk about it once in awhile. Sugar cookies----a memory maker!

I am wondering if I used brown flour and stevia, do you think I could make these recipes work?
  • Intuitive Dec 29, 2010 @ 8:39 am | delete
The brown flour, yes, but the stevia I'm not so sure. I've always thought that it's the physical way that the sugar mixes with the butter and shortening that's important and you wouldn't need the same volume of stevia. I could be wrong, though.

Sugar cookies are my favorite & lemon cookies hold a close 2nd, so I'm going to have to try those Seventeens ~ except with all butter, because I don't ever use shortening as it never leaves your body once it's consumed...but they just sound delightful! :)
  • Intuitive Nov 23, 2010 @ 8:47 am | delete
I've never heard this before. I know that hydrogenated oil is not good for you (but then really, nothing in these cookies is good for you if you want to get that technical), but I hadn't heard it doesn't leave your body. Use lard, then, because the cookies won't have the right texture with just butter. Or better yet, leave them alone.
  • WildFacesGallery Nov 11, 2010 @ 11:34 am | delete
Mmmm cookies. Around the holidays Mike and I always baked up bunches of cookies. Of course being a diabetic now means no more of that. I do miss it. Sugar cookies are my favorite though.

I'm trying to think of the last time I had a sugar cookie. Wow, it's been a REALLY long time. But I recall that the last time I did have one, it was hardly only ONE. It's tough not to eat the whole batch, especially when they're warm. Yep, the smell of warm sugar cookies is coming back to me oh so clearly.

Brings back memories of baking with my mom when I was little. We would roll the dough into walnut-sized balls, then flatten them with the bottom of a glass which had been dipped in sugar. Mmmm... melt in your mouth! And tastes soooo good dunked in coffee or with an ice-cold glass of milk!
