Get Tons of Potch (money) through Trading Wisely
All right, I'm tired of trying to remember which Suikoden V trading post pays the most Potch for this or that, so I'm creating this Suikoden V Trading Guide with a crib sheet to help me make money in this video game quickly.
This isn't a complete, exhaustive game FAQ -- for that, get the excellent Suikoden V Trading Guide by "popemobile."
Instead, I've created a PDF chart of where to sell each Trading item for the best possible price. The chart is divided into phases of the game, since different trading posts become available as you progress through the story.

Basic Suikoden V Trading Tips
Okay, before we get to the charts
When you pick "Sell," prices in red are less than you originally paid, prices in blue are higher than you originally paid, and prices in white are the same.
Each city has a standard price for each item. My basic strategy is to buy everything that I know sells for a better price somewhere else that I can reach, then sell it when I get there.
Random price events, such as a good wheat harvest, will raise or lower the price of one item for a while. Only one of these price events is happening at any given time, and the current "rumor" will identify it correctly. Once the price event is over, it takes a little while for the price of that item to return to normal.
If you're lucky or wily, you can sell when the price of something skyrockets. I simply use these rumors to avoid buying when the price is abnormally high. If the price on an item drops, I'll buy it at several locations and wait to sell until the price returns to normal.
Once you've done a lot of trading, new items gradually unlock: Miso, Beer, Wine, Sake and Gold Craftworks.
You will get a few faster ways to travel and a few shortcuts at certain phases of the game which I will note below.
For a major trading run, you may want to store party items to free up inventory slots (but do NOT choose "Store All", which even stores equipped items) and retrieve your adventuring gear after the run.
Now to the chart. After the chart, I discuss each "trading phase" (game intro, getting to Rainwall, settling at Raftfleet, etc) in more detail with chapter-specific tips.
To PRINT this chart, you'll need to print it in Landscape mode. If your web browser doesn't give you that option (I'm lookin' at you, Chrome), download the PDF and print it with Word, or -- on Chrome -- tell it to let you use your system's own dialog box.
Intro: Sol-Falena and Stormfist
(I don't do much trading here, but...)
Best Price for SELLING in Stormfist:
Salt (150), Soybeans (250), Veggies (600), Rice (2400), Handicrafts (1600), Coffee (4000), Spices (2350)
Best Price for SELLING in Sol-Falena:
Sugar (100), Fruit (1600), Wheat (1600)

NOTES: Don't bother with Tea (costs more in Sol-Falena, and Stormfistians don't sell it) or Iron (vice versa).
You can't do much trading at the beginning of the game, except to buy when the price DROPS and hope to be around long enough to sell it when the price returns to normal.

Staying in Rainwall
Run back and forth level-grinding and trading goods for cash!
Best SELLING Price: Haud
Coffee (6000), Iron (10,000), Gold/Silver (60,000), Wine (26,000)
Best SELLING Price: Rainwall
Sugar (90), Salt (300), Soybeans (420), Wheat (2300), Rice (2550), Spices (3000), Pearls (80,000), Sake (40,000), Goldwork (175,000)
Best SELLING Price: Raftfleet
Veggies (800), Fruit (2000)
Best SELLING Price: Estrise
Handicrafts (3000), Tea (6000), Miso (4000), Beer (13,000)

Trading in this part of the game is tedious but rewarding: not only can you rack up lots of cash, but every time you run from town to town your characters will be collecting experience and loot from random monster battles.
Collect and hold onto at least six bags of salt. Eventually, salt's price will skyrocket. Then run to Raftfleet, talk to the geezer in the Trading post, and sell all the salt you have at a high price. The geezer will be so impressed by your trading acumen that you can recruit him, and later he'll open a shop for you.
You probably won't unlock anything past Miso this early; don't worry about it.
Just for fun, pay attention to which items each town prizes, which it sells for cheap, and which items aren't available. For example, Raftfleet evidently grows veggies on their barges and sells them, but like most sailors they're short on fresh fruit. The artists' colony lives on wine and coffee and avoids more "normal" Japanese beverages like tea and sake, while the dwarves apparently live on beer.
Coffee (6000), Iron (10,000), Gold/Silver (60,000), Wine (26,000)

Staying in Raftfleet
Don't panic; Chuck and your storeroom wiill come with you
Best SELLING Price: Haud
Wheat (2200), Coffee (6000), Spices (2800), Gold/Silver (60,000), Wine (26,000), Pearls (75,000)
Best SELLING Price: Raftfleet
Fruit (2000), Pearls (75,000)
Best SELLING Price: Estrise
Handicrafts (3000), Tea (6000), Miso (4000)
Best SELLING Price: Dwarf Camp
Sugar (85), Salt (240), Soybeans (490), Veggies (1000), Rice (2700), Iron (11,000), Beer (15,000), Sake (46,000)

Note same price for Pearls in Haud and Raftfleet, and Fruit is 1950 in Haud, so you may sometimes skip Raftfleet (then again, Raftfleet has a lot of cheap foodstuffs you can sell elsewhere)
Keep selling Wheat until it unlocks Beer. I didn't get any of the other unlockables until later.
After the prison episode, return to the Dwarf Mines and bumble around between the prison and dwarves until you find Egbert. Let him rant until he runs out of breath. Do NOT press any buttons while he's talking unless you see the white button prompt. If you don't interrupt, you can recruit him, and he will (a) increase Potch from battles as a support ability and (b) open a shortcut between the Dwarf Camp and the mine entrance.
At a certain point, assuming you recruited Sairoh in Raftfleet, he will open a store for you at your HQ. All his prices are lower than the top prices elsewhere, except the rare unlockable "Gold Craftworks" for which he will pay you a whopping 190,000. I didn't unlock it this early, so I just scooped up all his goods (unless one had a price spike) whenever I was going out and sold them abroad.

TRADE INTERRUPTION: There is a chaotic period when you won't be able to trade with Lelcar, Sable, or many other places, so that it's really not worth trading at all. Just store your goods and ignore trading for a little while. If you need Potch badly during this phase, grab Egbert, Zweig and Lorelei plus a bunch of Prosperity items on different party members and go treasure hunting in the Big Hole. (I assume you picked up Bastan as your appraiser. If you didn't, do so: grab some party members with the Treasure Hunter skill, take Logg's boat to the Revolving Bridge, fight until you've picked up about 10 ? Paintings, then take them to the Appraiser's shop in Haud until Bastan recognizes one of them as a rare painting.)
