RocketMoms Summer Session 2011

RocketMoms Summer Session 2011

This summer session of Rocketmoms challenged us to make 6 lenses.

It was great to be challenged again to open my writing to topics other than yarn and crochet.

This session I introduce you to my online video gaming experience, my top 10 favorite raw vegan foods, my family vacation spot, decorating with silk maple leaves and debating two writing platforms.

Come Along With Me and the RocketMoms

Summer Session 2011 with Momwithahook on Squidoo

School Bus of the RocketMomsCome along with me and the RocketMoms as we travel to six different neighborhoods in our little Squid-World.

First we visited the About Me neighborhood where we wrote a lens about ourselves. We also explored a wee site called About.Me. I made a bit of a page but still need to tweak it a bit.

Our next stop in the neighborhood was in the Fall, Thanksgiving or the Squidooboo Zone. You'll see all sorts of different ideas that the Moms came up with from decorating, back to school, vegetarian thanksgiving recipes and even a couple of spooky scary lenses in there too.

For our third stop we traveled to the ever popular Travel neighborhood - I know huh? they always get the attention. With Squidoo Moms coming from all over the world you are sure to find something that interests you - be sure to check out the lens on Camping at Lassen National Park.

What could be more exciting for our fourth visit than to travel to the Top Ten Territory. Yes, the RocketMoms shot out Top 10 Lenses like there was no tomorrow - Elvis even came along for the ride.

Hey, Monkey Brain did you think we'd skip you? This was more of a challenge for me than any of the other neighborhoods but I did manage to complete this challenge. Some Rocketmoms have a real talent for this co-brand - check out Good Witch vs Bad Witch or Plarn 101.

Aww, don't cry, I know it seems like it's the end of the RocketMoms as we are coming to our sixth neighborhood visit - Good news though- RocketMoms will have another session here real soon- we usually have about 4 sessions a year.

Our final trip in Squid-world for the Summer of 2011 was in the Education Station or Neighborhood - I just thought it would be cool to rhyme. I love this topic more now than when I was in school and we have some of the most excellent Edu-Moms in the RocketMoms Club. One lens that stood out to me was the Learn Amharic-Teach your children Amharic lens written by Mujjen this is the Ethiopian language.

I Play Wizard 101

Yes, Moms and Dads Love Video Games Too!

RocketMoms Summer session challenged us to make a lens for the 'About Me' category. The last time I wrote an 'About Me' lens was when I wrote A Bipolar Mom which was kind of a real revealing lens for me - a challenge as I try to stay clear of topics that are close to me.

The story behind my starting this crazy addiction started with my son wanting some 'points' for another online game he likes to play. How I got started? Well, I guess I'll let you read that when you visit the lens.

If you are one of the many parents or grandparents that play wizard 101 be sure to vote in the poll about which wizard school you are from - I'm studying the Balance school.

You need to check out the cute video that a young girl made for her Mom as a gift for mother's day using her Wizard 101 character. Yes, Wizards' love their Moms.

By the way - I'm no longer addicted - that has passed. :) 8-23-2011

Silk Autumn Leaves

Rocket Moms Summer Session Week 2

For week 3 of Rocketmoms it was all about fall. We made a lens that had to focus in on the fall season - my favorite season by the way.

What better topic than Leaves right? Being from California it can be a bit difficult to bring in the Fall season when decorating especially when temperatures outside can still manage to get up to 90 degrees.

We tend to shop discount stores for silk autumn leaves and place them throughout the house - on the table tops, in our candle dishes, we like to string them along a valance and pretty much anywhere we can find a place for them.

I was lucky to have found a video that showcased many of my ideas so you will get a nice visual on how to use silk autumn leaves in your fall decorating.

R-Ranch in the Sequoias

Week Three is All About Traveling

My parents bought into a R-Ranch vacation community when I was a Junior in high school. This lens introduces you to that place and I share some of my first memories of visiting R-Ranch in the Sequoias.

I've since returned and there have been many improvements on the cabins and I don't think the trailers are used any longer but then I didn't visit that part of the ranch when I visited in 2009.

You'll see a couple of photos we shot including a buck, a Sequoia tree and one of the 3-girls who had a fantastic break from the 'boys' the summer of 2009.

Top 10 Raw Vegan Foods

Rocket Moms Summer Session Brings on the Top Ten Challenge

Week 4 of the Rocket Moms Summer Session challenged us to make a Top 10 list. I chose to write about my top 10 raw vegan foods. I've been challenging myself to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables this year. I am really trying to make my diet mostly raw [80%] and I am getting there slowly.

I've come across a number of excellent raw foods over the course of the last 8 months and this list features 10 of my favorite. It is amazing how when you take away the garbage, in my case fast food and soda, vegetables and fruits have excellent flavors and textures that weren't really noticeable before.

I also watched the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead by Joe Cross and have been inspired to do a liquid fast. Not sure I can do a 90 day fast but I'll start with just 4 days. [been doing a fruit cleanse for 4 days now]

Be sure to add your favorite fruit or vegetable to my list and try out the awesome watermelon salsa recipe. Yum!

Hey Monkey Brain - Yes, I'm Talking to You

Rocket Moms Summer Session Week 5

Rocket Moms Summer Session week 5 challenged us to make a duel lens - known as the 'Hey Monkey Brain' lens. We had to debate a topic and I chose to compare Squidoo and Wizzley as writing platforms.

I've been on Squidoo since 2007 and have really fallen in love with the whole lens creation thing. I enjoy making lenses but I also enjoy the community that is Squidoo.

Wizzley was started by a couple of Squidoo Lensmasters and just launched publicly I believe in June. It was after seeing a Squid-friend post a Wizzley article on her Facebook wall that I first heard about it. I joined right away as I love hanging out with the 'cool crowd' - no really I just thought it was time to step out of my Squid-nest.

If you've never been to Wizzley you can check it out and sign up for a free account and take a look around. There are lots of tutorials and even a couple of video's to help you out.

I compare ad sharing and writing on both platforms - for me they are about equal - but then again I've only been on Wizzley for about 2 months.

Hop on the Rocket Moms School Bus

Our Final Challenge was to make an Education Lens

Our Final challenge in the RocketMoms Summer Session was to make an education lens - after all we're preparing to go back to school this month- so hop on the RocketMoms School Bus and learn with me.

I decided to write about the Top 5 Most Visited National Monuments in America. Do you think you can guess which they are? Did you know America has 60 National Monuments? I didn't - History was not my strong point in school. I enjoy it know but I was asleep half the time in class when History came around.

Be Sure to stop on by and take one of the quizzes. Let me know how you did.

Summer 2011 Session

This summer I was able to participate in the Rocket Mom Session and as is the case for all sessions I was not disappointed. I am always challenged to step outside of my comfort zone into writing topics that I don't normally write about - yes, I do know how to write on non-crochet topics. :)

Check out what all the RocketMoms did this summer by visiting the Compilation lenses filled with all the fabulous Moms who are the smartest women on the web [and a whole lot more].
