Summer Crochet Fun with Yarn and Hook
As I write this June 1 is on the morrow which still gives you little time to whip up a few summer crochet items to take along to the beach or the pool.
Make a summer Tote with a Sun Bathing Mat and bring along your tunes covered in a nice cozy or your favorite book and book thong.
For the kids you can crochet a game of checkers, a rainbow necklace, or a satchel to gather ocean treasures.
Thinking of bringing your cat or dog along? No worries as we have them 'covered' as well with a crochet poop keeper and leash and an elegant collar for your Ms. or Mr. Kitty.
Don't forget the Water or your sun screen! Lip balm is another necessity when going to the beach.

Summer Crochet for Venice Beach
Southern California
Why not stop by the famous VENICE BEACH in Southern California?
One of the first times I spent hanging out with my [now] husband was at Venice Beach. I remember visiting it as a child but when I was walking down the pier and along the boardwalk he was talking of his memories as he lived there for a short time while growing up. It was here that he learned how to play the guitar from one of the regular street entertainers. :)
Don't forget to see the One man Band, SHOP, and of course sample the unhealthy although tempting treats that all spell summer!

- Berroco Free Pattern | Ina
- Ina is a Suede%u2122 crocheted and beaded bikini top that we have stitched to a "ready to wear" gauze skirt with elastic shirred waist, creating a fabulous summer dress.
- Berroco Free Pattern | Vitro
- Our Vitro trio of accessories features necklaces in either Seduce or Lumina. We wrapped and tied or crocheted around beachglass to create necklaces.
- Berroco Free Pattern | Coronado Beach Thongs
- Easy Beach Thongs aka Barefoot sandals
- Lily Pattern Beach Bag & Mat (crochet)
- A fun and practical project. Roomy beach bag carries all your supplies, including the matching mat! Measures approx. 17" x 60" (43 x 152.5 cm) unfolded. Shown in Lily Sugar'n Cream Stripes, using 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook
- Lacy Kercheif
- The pattern is written so any yarn can be used, at practically any gauge. The two yarns I choose-Sundance and Soft Linen- each have different gauges and both work into beautiful kerchiefs.
- Water Bottle Cover
- We have a joke here in Florida: don't even walk to your mailbox without a bottle of water. It is a great stash buster, using less than one ounce of worsted yarn. It is worked all in one piece, so there is no need for sewing. It has a slight texture to it, so it won't slip out of your hand. The strap can go around your wrist or be clipped onto your gym bag as well. It is thin enough so you can put it in the drink holders in your car, with no sweat! Using acrylic worsted makes it easy to wash and dry. It will keep your water cool, and always at your fingertips.
- Beaded Cell Phone Holder
- This is a very easy cell phone case that can easily be modified to suit whatever size cell phone you have.
- Hope Bracelet
- This lovely bracelet is made from pearls and amethyst beads.
- Heartfelt Bicycle Seat Cover
- Being from the Jersey Shore, I spent many summer days at the beach. Biking to
the beach was fine, but having a seat cover on the return ride home would have saved
me from a hot behind! - Market Bag
- Farmers Market Bag, originally published in "The Green Issue" of Knit.1 Magazine (www.knit1mag.com ).
- No more Dents Canister Container pattern
- I did this project for my husband's aluminum canister. I did some searching of different kinds of stitches and decided to use a raised/relief stitch, it is a kind of textured stitch which I believe is good if I want to not just to have a carrier but also protect my DH's aluminum from dent and scratch.
- Old Town Flip-Flops
- These shoes were made for walking--and showing off your crochet skill! This unique project works up quickly. (you will need a pair of flip flops for this pattern)
- Ms. Kyle's Kitty Collar
- Your kitty helps with your yarn projects every day. Isn't it
time you reward her with her very own crocheted gift? - More Than an Apron
- You might question the idea of a crocheted apron, but this is not your mother's apron! This is an apron with style that reaches beyond the kitchen. You can wear the piece apron-style with it open in the back or you can wear it open in the front like a jumper. Also, it can be worn as a fashion statement, or it can be worn for practical purposes as a "true" apron in the kitchen or garden. Finally, you can wear this garment year round! Wear it in the winter with a sweater under it or with a tank in the summer.
- Book Thong
- Recycle those paper bookmarks you get for free at the bookstore. Chuck those decrepit woven things you've kept since childhood. Take a few minutes to crochet yourself a simple, elegant book thong that will make you feel like the sophisticated intellectual you know you are.
- Hemp Goodies for Your Hair
- This is a fine drapey twine that crochets up nice and tight with a smallish hook - flexible enough to wrap around a pony-tail, but stiff enough to hold its shape.
Included here are two stick-barrettes, one hair tie, and a Möbius hair band - a new *twist* on the old scrunchie. - Soda Can Cover -- A pattern from the library of the JPF Crochet Club
- This cover is a result of a request by one of our site's visitors. It is really easy to make and you can complete it in an afternoon. It's just the thing you need to keep your fingers from getting too cold from the icy cold-wet can.
- Mini Checker Board
- Ever wished you could play checkers wherever you go? Carry this mini board in your purse or backpack and play with pennies and nickels!
- EASY: Rainbow Necklace - Skill Level: Easy Peasy
- This is an Easy Peasy pattern. You just make a rainbow of balls, sew them together and your little girl or boy (or YOU) will have a sweet squishy toy necklace.
- Crochet Memories, Free Kid's Sunshine Tote
- This is perfect for little ones as you can crochet this up quickly and add some crayons, bubbles, scratch paper, little toys and such for them to keep safe inside for each trip to the beach.
- Mesh Girl's Crocheted Cardigan
- Perfect for the cooler evenings while walking along the shore or on the boardwalk- This is gorgeous in white.
- free/hippyhalterset
- I worked up the hippy halter top for a rainbow challenge via EtsyHookers Team and I just think it turned out sooooo cute. This set includes the pattern for the halter top, a kerchief, and directions on how to add ruffles to the bottom of a pair of jeans. [You can also try this technique for a wee skirt instead of pants]
