Sun Tattoos: Let the Sun Shine In

A Sun Tattoo- that's my next choice. I currently have two tattoos, and I'm planning a third. This one will be a sun tattoo, or a tribal sun. I haven't made a final decision on what it will be at this time.

In the mean time, here are some great collections of sun tattoos. You can find some really unique designs, some sun and moon tattoos, along with tribal sun tattoos.

My Tattoo Story

You Got a What?

When I was 19, I went with a friend to offer her support as she got her first tattoo. She wanted a shooting star on her hip. Fine for her, but it wasn't for me. We went to a shop in Southampton in Bucks County run by a big biker guy named Tiny. This was over 20 years ago. Who knew that I'd end up walking out with a tattoo on my foot that very night! Come on now, I'm spontaneous, but really had no desire for a tattoo.

Did I get some exotic wildflower? Did I get a beautiful cross, or maybe something that had a deep meaning to me? No- I got a small inch worm on my foot listening to music. *smile* I have a quirky sense of humor and like how he looks on the side of my foot when I'm barefoot in the grass.

Next, I got a butterfly to represent my free spirit.

I'd like one more on my ankle- can you guess? A sun tattoo, but I'm not sure exactly what I want. I have a general idea, but I am slow to make that final choice. Of course, knowing it doesn't feel good when it's going on bone may be holding me off a little too! ha

Either way, I've got 2 now, and hope to get a 3rd in the not to far future.

Small Tribal Tattoos

Tribal Sun Tattoos

I want small tribal tattoos. My husband didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about. My next tattoo is going to be a small tribal sun tattoo on my ankle. What's a tribal tattoo he asked? It has a certain look to it, but then I realized, he's not into tattoos, so to him, it's an expression he wasn't used to hearing. If you're searching for tattoo designs, then you're quite familiar with the term, because it's everywhere. Tribal designs have exploded in popularity, and you're starting to see them everywhere. Hop onto Flickr and type in tribal tattoo, and you'll see quite a few to get the gist.

While many people think that tribal tattoos are only made with black ink, that's just not so. They can come in multiple colors, and many are unique, as people and artists create different styles. Freehand ensures you, you'll have a unique design, and that it represents what you want. As for me, while freehand is cool, I have a specific style in mind, and am sticking to it. I'm particular about some details, so I don't want to leave it up to guessing or interpretation.

Small tribal tattoos are often seen on the arm, lower back or leg. Many people choose to get huge full back designs on the back, but that's an entirely different situation! We're focusing on small tattoos, and small tribal tattoos.

An aztec sun...what does that look like in your mind? See, I'll bet it's different than how I imagine it. That's why it's good to have your tattoo artist draw it out before hand, or be sure to bring in a copy of the design that you love.

Do you want something symbolic, or just a certain style? How large do you want the design, and so you want it to have sharp clean edges, or more curves to it? Having a specific idea helps you narrow down your choices.

What will you be getting next? I love small tribal tattoos, but they aren't for everyone. Loving your choice is important, since it's with you for life.

Small Star Tattoos

STAR TATTOOS: Another popular design

Small star tattoos are a fun option when choosing small tattoos. Whether you want a plain star tattoo, or maybe a shooting star tattoo design, there are a lot of great options.

Small tattoos are a popular choice, since people can enjoy having a tattoo, but it's discreet and doesn't scream "tattoo" if you're a business professional. Women tend to opt for smaller tattoos, and small star tattoos are a design many pick. My friend got a shooting star tattoo on her hip for her tattoo.

A star can simply be a fun and pretty design, or it can represent something to you, like a successful advance in your life. Because small tattoos don't take up a lot of space, it means they can be easy to hide, or if they are out in the open like on your wrist or arm, they are little, so not as obvious as big designs.

Another bonus is the cost of the tattoo. A simple, small star tattoo will cost a lot less than an elaborate full back design! It's budget friendly, while letting you get a tattoo!

Another added bonus is a small tattoo design takes less time to get. Of my two tattoos, the larger one took longer, and it doesn't feel great getting a tattoo; smaller tattoo design, quicker process!

Tell me about Tattoos

A tattoo is a marking made by inserting indelible ink into the layers of skin to change the pigment for decorative or other reasons. Tattoos on humans are a type of decorative body modification, while tattoos on animals are most commonly used for identification or branding.

Tattooing has been practiced worldwide. The Ainu, the indigenous people of Japan, traditionally wore facial tattoos. Today one can find Berbers of Tamazgha (North Africa), Maori of New Zealand, and Atayal of Taiwan with facial tattoos. Tattooing was widespread among Polynesian peoples and among certain tribal groups in the Taiwan, Philippines, Borneo, Mentawai Islands, Africa, North America, South America, Mesoamerica, Europe, Japan, Cambodia, New Zealand and Micronesia. Despite some taboos surrounding tattooing, the art continues to be popular in many parts of the world.

Tattoo Pictures

Choosing a Design

Looking at a lot of tattoo pictures? Have you picked out your favorite design yet? Many people think long and hard finding just the perfect design. I on the other hand ended up doing something spontaneous! I didn't mean to, but it happened. Luckily, I don't regret it after 20 years, but taking the time to choose something just right for you is the right step to take! I'm looking into getting my third small tattoo, and know exactly what I want. While I all ready have two small tattoos, my third one will be a tribal sun in oranges and yellow on my right ankle.

Twenty years ago, when I got my first small tattoo, it wasn't as common for girls to get tattoos. Now, they've become very common! Did you know that 1 in every 4 people has a tattoo? These days tattoos have become a way to express oneself through body art. What used to be a sailor with a girl tattooed to his arm, has become women with roses, and beautiful elaborate designs, to tramp stamps on their lower back! It used to be mostly men who got tattoos, but women have leveled the playing field, and more and more you find girls with tattoos. While I used to be one of two friends who had a tattoo in my group, these days, almost everyone I know has one!

Let me put this out there, once you decide your design, be sure you want it. Tattoos are permanent. There are ways tor remove them, but let's face it- it's pricey and painful. Sometimes it hurts more to remove the tattoo then to get it!

How can you prevent that? Be sure on the design that you choose. It's there for life, so pick carefully. Decide on something that will matter to you 10 years from now. I don't know how many people I've seen who put a lover's name on their body, only to break up with that lover later! Don't choose names, unless it's one of your children!

If you're going to invest in a tattoo, do it wisely. Don't scrimp on price, this is something that will be on your body for years to come. Don't choose cheap artists, because there's usually a reason they aren't charging much. Pay for high quality, and you'll be happy with the results. Ask around and see who has a good solid reputation, and be sure to see some of their work. This is one area you don't want to fool around with.

If you're a woman, one thing to keep in mind is getting a small tattoo in an area that can be covered. It's just a thought I want to toss out there. While you may love having that snake wrapped around your arm at 20, when you're at a picnic with your kids, when you're 40, you may not be thrilled with that design anymore. Small, discreet tattoos that can be covered are always something to keep in mind if you're looking at a career in your future.

What's a Temporary Tattoo?

A temporary tattoo is an image on the skin resembling a true tattoo, but is non-permanent. Temporary tattoos can be drawn, painted, or airbrushed, as a form of body painting, but most of the time these tattoos are transferred to the skin. Temporary tattoos of any kind are used for numerous purposes including self-expression, identification, and advertising. For example, actors who wish to add to their character's distinctiveness might take temporary tattoos painted on the skin by hand or using stencils as part of their cosmetic ritual.

Temp Tattoos

Temporary Tattoos

Temp tattoos or temporary tattoo designs have become quite popular. Many people are choosing to try out a small tattoo before making any final decision. You used to see "kid" style temp tattoos in Cracker Jacks and vending machines, but these days there are many different options! You can get henna temp tattoos, or airbrushed temp tattoos, as well as premade designs.

What's great is now with so many different styles available, you can pick and choose exactly what you'd like. Take for instance, I'm thinking of adding a third tattoo to my right leg. I can use a temporary tattoo and decide if it would look better on my left leg, or with the others on the right. Just by having this choice, it gives me the chance to see it before I get it. I can "live with it" this way for a few days and be more comfortable with my final decision.

Maybe you'd like to get a cool barbwire or tribal tattoo on your arm, but aren't sure how it will look. Find a temporary version, or have a temp tattoo airbrushed on, and wear it. See if you feel comfortable with it. Would you prefer something with more color, or just black ink? It's a personal decision, but trying it out first will make you happier with the final outcome.

Cross tattoos, small tattoos, dragonfly tattoos, celtic designs have all become hugely popular. You'll also see tons of tribal tattoos and Hawaiian tattoos now also. Do you want something that everyone else has; or do you want a custom design? Having a "temp tattoo" lets you pick and choose, until you find what suits you best.
