Let Sungha Jung's Magic Soothe Your Soul

Anybody can play a guitar. But only a few can make a guitar sing the way Sungha Jung can. If you have heard him for the first time then you might think that music is being played by two adult professional guitar musicians. But you'll be really surprised to know that the music is being played by a 9 year old. Sungha is now thirteen. He is now better than most guitarists out there. That is if we take into account his age.

"My daily practice routine lasts for one to two hours when school is open, but I play up to three hours a day during the school breaks.
It usually takes me two to three days to practice and videotape a new piece but sometimes up to a week for more difficult ones."
- Sungha Jung

MOON RIVER

arranged by Shun Komatsubara

Henry Mancini
Pink Guitar Book & CD

(Acoustic Masterclass)

"Moon River" is a song composed by Johnny Mercer (lyrics) and Henry Mancini (music) in 1961, for whom it won that year's Academy Award for Best Original Song. It was originally sung in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's by Audrey Hepburn, although it has been covered by many other artists.

It became the theme song for Andy Williams, who first recorded the song in 1961 and performed it at the Academy Awards ceremonies in 1962. He sang the first eight bars of the song at the beginning of his television show; he also named his production company and venue in Branson, Missouri after "Moon River".

Williams' version was vetoed by Cadence president Archie Bleyer, who believed it had little or no appeal to teenagers.[citation needed] Andy Williams' version never charted, except as an LP track, which he...

It was this song that led me to discover the magic of Sungha Jung. I was out surfing the net for a tablature of this song. It is one of my best friends favorites musical pieces. She gave me her guitar as her legacy to me and I promised myself to learn this song no matter what. The matter is... You can too with this wonderful book foundonly in Amazon. The tablature for Moon River is written here.

I'm still learning it.

"When the Children Cry" is a power ballad, performed by the rock group White Lion on their 1987 album Pride. The single peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, #53 in Canada, and #88 in the UK in early 1989.

In early 2003, just before the beginning of the Iraq War, it was re-released as a cover by Christian indie rock group Seventh Day Slumber. In 2007, T Beats UK produced a hip hop remix of the song using a sample from the first verse...

This song was supposed to be our intermediate school graduation song. But due to the nature of it's being a rock ballad... our super old fashioned gnarled faculty rejected it. We were practicing it for four whole months and then they rejected it one month before graduation day. They then ordered us to sing the "Like An Eagle". Learn to play it using the techniques written in this book found only in Amazon.

I was able to play a close imitation of this song when I was in college. It took me the better half of a semester to get it. That's how tone deaf I am. :-)

The Complete Guitar Player Tablature Book
(Complete Guitar Player Series)

"Top of the World" is the name of a 1973 song by The Carpenters. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973, becoming the duo's second U.S. number-one single. Originally intended to be only an album cut for the Carpenters, Lynn Anderson covered the song; Anderson's version reached #2 on the U.S. country singles charts in mid-1973. The success of Anderson's version prompted the Carpenters to release a new version as a single, where it topped the U.S. pop singles chart...More on Wiki

No week passes by without me hearing my Mom humming this song. She must be really happy with my Father. Hahahaha... Sungha just brings more life to this song with hisbrand of playing. You do not need to hear the lyrics to fully enjoy the song. How I wished I paid attention to my guitar classes.

This is one of the songs I was asked to sing in front of a crowd when I was in college. I was joining a student organization that time and singing suddenly to an unsuspecting crowd was part of the acceptance rights. The shame... hahahaha. But it was better than measuring the dimension of the dorm using a match stick.

Fingerpicking Standards:
17 Songs Arranged for Solo Guitar in Standard Notation and Tablature

"California Dreamin'" is a song by The Mamas & the Papas, first released in 1965. The song is #89 in Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. According to John Phillips in a Bravo documentary, and Michelle Phillips in an NPR piece, the song was written in 1963 while they were living in New York. He dreamed about the song and woke her up to help him write. At the time, the Phillipses were members of the folk group The New Journeymen which evolved into The Mamas & the Papas.

They earned their first record contract after being introduced to Lou Adler, the head of Dunhill Records, by the singer Barry McGuire. In thanks to Adler, they sang the backing vocals to "California Dreamin'"...

Sungha fantastically captures the time and era of this song. Only a true Guitar Hero can play this song at such a tender age. That's the result of constant hours of guitar practice instead of constant hours of video game playing.
