Sunless Tanning Advice
Everyone wants to have that healthy bronzed tan look but these days sun damage to the skin is a real concern. That is where sunless tanning comes in, you can get the look without damaging your skin.
However there are a number of different sunless tanning methods, so which is best for you?
1. Tanning Pills - They have been on the market for a number of years now but let me make this quite clear - DO NOT USE TANNING PILLS! You can buy all kinds of diffent pills online, the ingredients vary wildly and most are not approved for human use. Some are useless and will have no effect. Caretenoid tanning pills do 'work' by depositing pigment under the skin in fat cells. However as fat is unevenly distibuted in the body the efects are usually undesirable. Also taking too many caretenoid pills can have a negative effect on the body.
2. Tanning Beds - These are quite a popular option, some people even have these at home. There is no doubt the they do work, you can get an even, bronze tan by using a tanning bed. However, they have a similar effect on the skin to natural sunlight so they are not a safe tanning method. Even though tanning beds use UV-A rays rather than the UV-B rays emitted by the sun they can still damage the skin.
3. Spray Tanning - This is THE method to go for if you want a safe, good looking tan. Tanning spray has no negative effects on your body and if done correctly it will leave you with an even tan. There are now oudourless sprays available so you do not have to walk around smelling like a chip!

Do You Know Your Skin Type?
Guidelines on how log you can safely spend in the sun vary according to the type of skin type you have. You will also need to know this before you go to a tanning salon.Skin Type 1 - Very fair skin, reddish hair, blue eyes, tendency to burn, never tans. It is unlikely that you will ever get a tan. If you have skin type 1 it is recommended that you do not to use sun beds at all.
Skin Type 2 - Fair skin, blonde to light brown hair, blue to grey eyes, burns easily but tans to a certain extent after prolonged exposure. If you have skin type 2 it is recommended that you use the sunless tanning product manufacturer's minimum tanning times.
Skin Type 3 - Normal skin, dark blonde to brown hair, grey to brown eyes, rarely burns, tans quite easily. If you have skin type 3 it is recommended that you build up to the sunless tanning product manufacturer's maximum recommended tanning times. But you should never exceed this level.
Skin Type 4 - Light brown to dark skin, dark hair and eyes, never burns, tans easily. If you have skin type 4 it is recommended that you use the sunless tanning product manufacturer's maximum tanning times. But again you should never exceed this level.
