Super Bowl Sunday - The Greatest Unofficial American Holiday
You can have Groundhog Day, President's Day, and I'll even throw in St. Patrick's Day.
Give me Super Bowl Sunday as the next great American Holiday. It's officially THE Unofficial Holiday.
It's like Thanksgiving only with better food, football, and beverages. Plus you don't have to invite the relatives - just invite the people you actually like.
Make Super Bowl Sunday Super
A great time on Super Bowl Sunday can be had if you stick to the following basic game plan:NFL Super Bowl XLII New York Giants Championship DVD

Relive one of the best (if not THE best) Super Bowl's in NFL history. New York's improbable run to the Super Bowl after starting the season 0-2 could not have been written any better if it were a Hollywood production.

Make your own Super Bowl Ticket Party Invitations
So cool, and simple. Making your own invitations look like Super Bowl tickets is a unique twist to add to your party. You can do this quite easily on your computer in a few simple steps.
What You Will Need:
- Photo editing software
- Color printer
- Card stock
- Open up your favorite photo editing software and create a new image measuring 2" by 5.5" (standard event ticket size).
- Search for whatever image you want to display on your ticket - Lombardi trophy, a football, etc. (I chose an aerial view of the stadium the game is played at)
- You can even find a bar code sample image and add that as well.
- Color the background of the ticket and add your image(s).
- Add text to the ticket with the time, location, and any other important items like admission - food or drink.
- When you have it how you want it to look, print out a batch and mail them out.
Here is what I came up with in less than 10 minutes:

My Favorite Super Bowl Party Menu
When it comes to the food for your Super Bowl party it is best left to this adage - keep it simple, stupid. Here is our typical Super Bowl Sunday spread:
Main Dish
Make your own sub sandwich - lots of choices of meats, cheeses, and even veggies.
Side Dishes
Meatballs and spicy chicken wings
Garnish (no caviar here folks)
Chips, pretzels, tortillas and dip, pickles (both sweet and dill - we don't discriminate at our Super Bowl Party), and maybe even a cheese and veggie tray.
Beverages
Yes, we have them ;)
Dessert
After eating all of the above food, who has room for dessert? Oh yeah, I usually have a hankerin' for something to satisfy my sweet tooth.
Here's my favorite - we call it Puppy Chow at my house:
- 12 oz. box Crispix cereal
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 12 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
- 2 to 3 cups powdered sugar
In a microwave safe bowl combine butter, peanut butter, and chocolate chips - microwave for 2-3 minutes. Stir it once or twice during the cooking time until it's smooth.
Place the cereal in another bowl and pour the melted mixture over it. Mix it around with a spoon until the cereal is evenly coated.
Pour the coated cereal into a large sealable bag and add the powdered sugar. Shake it until the cereal is evenly coated with the powdered sugar.
Empty the puppy chow onto a sheet of wax paper so it will cool off and dry. Place it in an airtight container after it has cooled.
I usually keep it in the fridge until it is time to serve it to keep it from being too sticky.
We got this recipe off a box of Crispix ages ago.

Super Bowl Halftime Show Featuring - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Greatest Hits

Good ol' Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers should put on a great halftime show. After all, they're much younger than the geriatric Rolling Stones who wheezed their way through their performance during halftime of Super Bowl XL.
Here are some songs off their Greatest Hits album that could easily relate (by their title) to the Super Bowl:
- I Won't Back Down
- Runnin' Down a Dream
- Something In The Air
- Into The Great Wide Open
- Even The Losers
- You Got Lucky

Yes, There is a Football Game on Super Bowl Sunday
Super Bowl XLII features a rematch of the final game of the regular season where the New York Giants did not rest their starters against the undefeated New England Patriots in a gutsy performance that ended in defeat - 38-35.They played to win in a game where the "experts" predicted they would rest their starters and put up little fight against the mighty Patriots.
They didn't play to "save something" for the playoffs and prevent injuries. That attitude of not rolling over for anybody became their catalyst and their mantra throughout the playoffs.
The New York Giants were not expected to win in each and every one of their three playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl.
Guess what? They're not expected to win the Super Bowl either. I know I wouldn't bet against them right now.
The New England Patriots are 18-0 and looking to capture their 4th Super Bowl Championship since 2002 in addition to becoming only the second NFL team to finish undefeated.
Who am I rooting for?
Well, whenever I am impartial to both teams (which, being a Detroit Lions fan is EVERY Super Bowl) I like to root for the underdog.
So I'll be cheering on the New York Giants, but I won't cry if they lose because it isn't every year you see an NFL team go through the year undefeated.
