It doesn't take an expert to see that crime is going up. Just turn on the news and check it out for yourself. Worst yet it is spreading to every last location in America. There is no one that is immune from the rising crime right. Experts say every 15 seconds there is a home burglary in the United States. So what can I do you ask? Well I'm glad you asked. These days it is not enough to just lock you doors and hope for the best. Criminals are getting smarter and smarter each and every day. That is why we need think like criminals and make sure we burglar proof our homes. The first thing to do is go outside you house and think about what you would you would if you were going to work and realized you just locked you keys inside you house. What would you do? You would probably be in a panic because you know that you are going to be late for work and you will probably do anything you have to do to get inside the house.

This is the perfect mindset to have because you are going to think about every last way you can to get inside the house. Climbing threw windows, prying the door open, every last thing you can think of to get inside the house so you are not late going to work. This is when you will be able to find every security weakness in your home. Walk around the house and try to open all of you windows including the basement windows. Push on some of the doors, maybe even use a credit card and try to pop the lock on your doors.

Make a note of any doors or windows that were easy to get into. Later you can take action to ensure these locations are locked down tight.

This will give you a good idea of how a criminal thinks. Of course that is not the only things they are going think but it will get you in the mindset. So after you get your new criminal outlook, walk around you house and look for the different areas that someone could lurk in the shadows and go unnoticed.

These are areas that you should considering putting in some outdoor lighting to eliminate the shady areas. It is places like this that a criminal is able to lurk through at night and work their way around you home and find the weak areas in your security so these are the areas you want to protect.

After you figure out what areas around you house are weak you're going to want to take steps to protect those areas. For the windows there is a very useful tool that works great. You can get a window jam. Generally they are a small extendable bar that you can use to jam your window so even if someone can pop the lock they still will not be able to open the window. Most of the windows out there can be opened very easily with many different tools. Perhaps even tools from the shed behind you house.

For the spots you found outside you will want to get some sort of outdoor lighting. I personally recommend getting motion activated lights they work great to surprise those pesky burglars. If you use the motion lights you should always get one the units that have the 2 lights in them. So you can point one t the area you want to light up and point the other on towards a window that you can see. That way if the light goes off you will notice it so you can take action to see who might be out there.

Another good measure is to get yourself a outdoor security camera . Most of the time just seeing a camera will cause most of the smart criminals to move on to the next target. If they make living off being a crook they probably don't want to be a movie star. If someone does try to break in than you will have some evidence to show the police and hopefully catch the burglar.
