What is natural horsemanship?
Natural horsemanship uses body language and hierarchy that horses know instinctively to communicate with them.
Humans are predators, and horses are prey animals, and a lot of traditional horsemanship reflects that. The problem is that predators and prey animals think in different ways, so horses just don't understand a lot of traditional methods, even when they're gentle. Because of that, they get confused, frustrated, and sometimes frightened.
Natural horsemanship encourages riders to think from the horse's point of view and do things in a way that make sense to horses. Trainers use body language and consistency to make the training program predictable and easy for horses to understand.
True natural horsemanship leads to well-trained horses horses that are eager, willing, playful, and confident but respectful.
