Superfruit

How can you tell which superfruit works, which one is the best, how to choose? There are pills, juices, etc. from many companies - some online, others are MLM such as Xango, Mona Vie, Exfuse, Tahitian Noni, etc., and you can find them at the local store. The choices are numerous, the claims incredible, and the prices varied. Plus, which fruit: Acai, Blueberry, Cranberry, Grape, Guarana, Mango, Mangosteen, Noni, Pomegranate, Seabuckthorn, and Wolfberry (Goji)? This article will help you navigate the new, exciting, and all natural world of superfruit supplements.

One SUPERFRUIT to Rule Them All?

How to choose which superfruit and which superfruit juice to use

If you're like me, you have looked on the internet for something to supplement your diet either to remedy an allergy, physical ailment, skin irritation, lose weight, or to stay healthy and avoid getting sick. Maybe it was some way to prevent H1N1 (swine) flu or reduce swelling, irritation, or arthritis. There has to be some natural way without the side effects of dealing with common ailments.

I'm not an MD, so that may or may not help you, but I have a lot of experience in evaluating information as well as its source. My quest for the superfruit that rules them all has led me through endless scientific journals, reading testimonials, and learning a ton about our physical chemistry and makeup. Coming to any sort of conclusion was difficult; nevertheless, I did come to one and it is simple. Let me explain.

Super Fruits

Recently, there has been a move to rename certain fruits as superfruits because of unique qualities. Some are powerful antioxidants, others contain phytonutrients, and other recently unknown or studied properties such as xanthones. The list of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, flavanoids, anthocyanins, macrophages, and polyphenols go on and on (confused?). To add to the confusion, opportunists have bottled these superfruits along with other ingredients to create a powerful supplement. Some tout one fruit, others combine them (the effect of combination not known) and package them in a sleek, attractive bottle full of wonder-juice that can help fight cancer and heal every issue you have.

The truth is, they are all supplements and to date there isn't one drink that has been proven to actually help cure anything. That is not to say that research isn't being currently conducted on a few and we may have better information in the future. I predict the superfruit juice that can come out on TV and be able to get approval from the FDC and FCC to market their product as a cure or having certain healing properties will become the "Superfruit to Rule Them All."

Making a Choice

For now, you have to make your decision about which juice or supplement to take based on other factors. First of all - does it actually do something? The only way to tell is to give a product a try - if it works, use it. Scientists will never be able to tell exactly why something helps and what the mechanics are behind it - they can only draw conclusions based on statistically significant data. You can do the same - test out various products, see what the results are, and make your own conclusion based on the evidence you have collected.

One of the most obvious things to consider is the taste - make sure it is something that is palatable and even enjoyable. If a three-year old won't drink it, you'll stop drinking it as well as it will become a detestable chore. Some superfruit out there taste like dirt and the only way to make it taste better is to add sugar, artificial sweetener, etc. Make sure what you are drinking doesn't add these elements - you may be doing yourself a favor with ailments but at the same time putting on the pounds or creating new health issues. MAKE SURE THE JUICE IS ALL NATURAL.

Warnings of Superfruit and Distributors

The third element is the company touting the product. Make sure it is sound and will be around for a while. A company that is losing money, in serious debt, has scams or a plethora of complaints attached to it about either the product or the "business opportunity" will probably leave the arena in the near future. The reason I mention this is because you don't want to find something that you like, works, and want to use for the rest of your life if it isn't going to be around for the rest of your life.

Also, make sure the company is legit and has more than just a web presence. As with everything, do your homework so you don't get ripped off!

The last thing, and this is one of the most important, is to make sure there are no side-effects or warnings about a superfruit or the additives and preservatives that may be introduced to the juice - especially if you fit into one of the categories of being at risk such as pregnant, breastfeeding, low/high blood pressure, etc. Look at the nutritional label to see the ingredients. If you can't find one - contact the company for one. The FDA requires nutritional labels on everything. In general, diabetics - pay attention to the sugar levels of the supplement both natural or unnatural. Also, those fighting cancer and going through treatment be warned that antioxidants can interfere with treatments.

Conclusion

My conclusion is simple: pick a superfruit supplement that interests you, check out the company and make sure you don't get ripped off, then buy some and try it. If you like the supplement and it gives you health benefits that are better than just eating fresh fruits and vegetables regularly, keep buying and using it. Don't be afraid to try other supplements as well.

Ignore the claims, make sure your product is all natural, doesn't contain anything harmful for you, and make sure it tastes good. There are many products to choose from that come from good companies. I've tried a few, obviously, and if you want to know my biased opinion on which one you should try and how it affected my family check out my article on Superfruits and Network Marketing or you can go to the company website where I purchase my juice at smithpartnership.mymangosteen.com, I hope this article has been informative and if there is anything I can do for you or if you have any questions, please drop me an email at superfruits.compared@gmail.com.

Want to Learn More About Superfruits

This wiki article is a great place to get started learning more about the details of individual "superfruits". Be careful, the details can be overwhelming especially when you begin clicking links and I think you will come to the same conclusion I have.

Superfruit, a marketing term first used in the food and beverage industry in 2005, refers to a fruit which combines exceptional nutrient richness and antioxidant quality with appealing taste that can stimulate and retain loyalty for consumer products. Some popular fruits like strawberries, blackcurrants, blackberries or oranges are not commonly mentioned as superfruits despite excellent nutritional properties, apparently because they have not been marketed specifically as superfruits.

Resulting from a deliberate business strategy of a manufacturer to bring together marketing, science and potential health value to consumers, a superfruit product is specifically designed in manufacturing and marketing.

Keys to marketing a successful superfruit product include the native fruit qualities, scientific evidence supporting a potential health benefit, marketing, protection of intellectual property and developing an appealing strategy to attract consumers. Combined in the right way, these elements may allow a fruit to achieve "critical mass" as a superfruit.

To date, superfruits have been developed mainly as juices, but began in 2007 to appear as single piece products or as ingredients for functional foods, confectioneries and cosmetics. Current industry development includes applications for creating novel consumer products, such as energy drinks, dietary supplements, and flavors with nutrient qualities, e.g. fortified water.

Although used increasingly in new food and beverage products, superfruits have not been defined by scientific criteria that would allow consumers to objectively assess nutrient value and potential for furnishing health benefits. Consequently, the term superfruit is used liberally to include a growing list of common and rare fruits, some having sparse scientific evidence for being "super".

Another fine article! In the midst of all of the "super-fruits" we are gathering more and more scientific data. Although the "real-life" experiences are encouraging, when science can place the missing "why" and "how" pieces to the puzzle, then you are on to something. One of the key factors that swayed me to the mangosteen was the 30 years of real scientific data substantiating the folkloric claims. The jury may still be out for some, but the buzz on the street is that there are some very powerful, double-blind, placebo human studies that are about to be revealed and the unveiling will be remarkable. Just last month Martha Stewart's "Living" magazine interviewed a research doctor from the Mayo clinic that is doing significant studies on his patients and coming back with very favorable results. The lid is about to be blown off this category-creating fruit and literally millions of people will benefit. Time to get on the train!
