Superman is born Kal-El on an alien planet named Krypton and is rocketed to Earth as an infant by his father moments before the planet's destruction. The rocket lands on Earth, where he is found by passing motorists who adopt him and give him the name Clark Kent.

Kal-El has grown to think of himself as Clark Kent, and in fact was completely unaware of his alien heritage until he was well into adulthood. His infinite strength and vastly superior senses give him commanding confidence and respect from man and beast.
Superman and the other Kryptonians have somehow developed a host of new powers, including teleportation and telekinesis. Superman was played in the movies most famously by actor Christopher Reeve , and in the popular 1950's television series The Adventures of Superman he was played by George Reeves.
Superman is the ideal of what we hope and wish to be. He is a dream of morality and decency, but in SMALLVILLE he becomes more real to us because of the talented writers, actors, and directors of the show. Comic creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster first drew him as a villain in a January 1933 story called "The Reign of the Super-Man," which appeared in an issue of their comic fanzine Science Fiction .
