More Supernatural Fun
Supernatural drinking games, trailer mash-ups, and other mainstays of fannish fun.
One increasingly popular form of fannish expression is remixing clips from tv shows and movies to different music. These remixes are called "fanvids." Though controversial for many years due to perceived copyright infringement, fanvids have found growing acceptance by the powers that be as their growing popularity has resulted in lots of free publicity and buzz for the tv shows, movies, and music in question.
Because of the small size and poor quality of YouTube videos, YouTube is largely shunned by the more experienced "vidders," so finding good fanvids on YouTube can be a daunting task. However, many up-and-coming fannish vidders get their start there and the occasional diamonds in the rough are fun to discover.
Cells
This season two tribute vid makes particularly good use of music and special effects to create its atmosphere.

A sincere, but somewhat uneven effort that might have benefited from a less literal interpretation of the lyrics at some points. A vidder to watch.

Making the Cut Competition
The Making the Cut competition was held in 2007 by the CW, Promax/BDA, and BLiNK and was an opportunity for college students to create a trailer for Supernatural. The prize included an internship at the CW network, and the winning entry was aired during summer reruns.
Float Away From Me's Entry
The first 18 seconds of this entry are the best part of any of the entries I've seen, with a fantastic use of voice over and music set to good clip choices. I again dislike the font used starting from the 19th second, though, and the rest of the promo also overuses voiceovers, in my opinion, without doing as good a job of matching them with clips or using them to create a coherent narrative. It was a bit disappointing after the fantastic start, but still definitely a vidder to watch.
This was my favorite of the entries. It makes truly fantastic use of music, editing, and special effects to emphasize the horror aspect of the show. I thought the font used at the end was a poor choice, however, and the text a bit too hyperbolic.
This entry did a great job of setting a creepy atmosphere with the voiceover and desaturated look, although I didn't actually think that it did the best job of matching the voiceover and music to the video clips. Overall, though, I can understand why it was the winner!
