Survival Knives
If you need some good tips for taking care of your survival knife, follow the suggestions below.
Caring for Survival Knives
The most important thing may be to clean and dry your knife, both the handle and the blade, after each use. Don't set it aside while wet, or you may forget. This can eventually lead to rusting. Also, avoid washing the knife in a dishwasher or leaving it submerged in water for long periods of time.
Check your knife for rust spots. If rust appears on your knife, scrub it with steel wool soaked in alcohol. Be sure to store your knife when you aren't using it. If you need to store your survival knife for a long period of time, find storage pieces that aren't acidic and are pH neutral. When storing the knife, wear gloves to avoid getting any oil or grime from your hands on the knife.
Sharpen your knife's blade with a regular sharpening stone. These can be found at any sporting goods or camping supply store. You can also try an Army Surplus store. A good place to find Ka-Bar Knives is Brigade QM's website. Light, even strokes down the blade after each heavy use will keep your blade sharp.
