For the 13th season of Survivor the contestants will journey to the south pacific to the Aitutaki Islands. They will be using a small series of Islands known locally as Motu. Motu Rakau and Motu Rapota will be the main islands where the castaways will live. Motukitiu will serve as Exile Island, returning from Survivor Panama where one castaways will spend the night in isolation. The main island of Motu Akiami will serve as home base for most challenges, tribal council and production.

Filmed in the Pearl Islands off the coast of Panama, season 12 changes the tribal landscape in a way no other series of survivor has. Contestants were divided into 4 tribes and later merged into two tribes. One tribe member was be forced to spend time on Exile Island where they were able to search for a hidden immunity idol. The winner was Aras Baskauskas.

This show featured one the fans favorite and noteable characters Boston Rob who would later go to compete on Survivor All-Stars. The show also had an impromptu solution to a voting tie that resulted in Paschal being eliminated. Vecepia Towery won on the final vote.

Many consider Colby's decision to take Tina to the final two instead of Lex one of th e shows greatest strategical errors, as Tina went on to win the 1 million dollar prize.

This show produced the most contestants to make it back to Survivor All Stars Edition including Jenna Lewis, Susan Hawk, Rudy Boesch, and Richard Hatch. Richard set the tone of building alliances and back room deals that still play a dominant role in the way the game is played to this day. Richard Hatch became the first to claim the title sole survivor and the 1 million dollar prize.
