Lenses by Susan Villas Lewis

I am ... (Isn't that enough?) Well, probably for my mom and my husband. But I guess the rest of you won't love me just for existing. So here's more about me, links to my various lenses, thoughts on future lenses and just the general randomness that is Susan Villas Lewis.

The start of this page includes lenses that are pretty specific to who I am, as well as random stuff from my life and my online footprint. The following sections are collections of lenses I've made that were large enough to merit their own areas. Because - yowsers! - I have a lot of lenses now.
Important!

Worth noting

I made all the lenses on this page. But in September 2011, I gave away 75 of them. I've gone back and forth about taking them off, leaving them on, especially my LOTD winners. So note that you might click through and discover a different owner and a lens that doesn't meet my standards anymore (or hopefully exceeds them!) since it might not be my lens now.

I was quite proud of being made a giant squid!!

I was ... Studying with Seth Godin

This was my application for Seth's alternative MBA program. Best six months ever! Was thrilled, amazed and awed at being chosen to do this.

I was ... Hiring a Boss

Project I took on as my six months with Seth were wrapping up. And yes, I did hire one. It was more than just trying to do a resume that would get noticed. I turned the entire hiring process on its ear.

I am ... a LOTD winner!!

I've never actually nominated any of my lenses for this honor, so I'm always quite surprised to find I've won. (In fact, if it wasn't for all the lovely comments of people who pay attention, I would miss the party!)

I am ... in Dallas

My latest craze is lenses on Dallas-area events. Here are a few you might catch me at.

I was ... a Groupmaster!

From back in the days when we had groups. It's now just another lens, but one where I feature other people's lenses as well. If you have a lens related to Texas, let me know so I can add it. If you're looking for a lens idea, come check out my wishlist as well.

I am ... on YouTube

My YouTube channel, although I have to admit it's been sorely neglected. Most of the videos I've made in the last two years were for work and are in the company's channel.
Loading

I am ... Curious (yep, that way too!)

Some of my lenses came about just because I ran across something, got curious and did some research. This is one of my favorite things about Squidoo. I'm notorious for researching the heck out of a topic. Now, I have an actual use for all that homework!!

I am ... a Food & Wine Lover

In my circle, I'm the person to ask about where to go eat in Dallas. But I love cooking too. I'll be expanding this as I do more current "research." :-)

Yep, I have an actual published book on Amazon

Accidentally ran across myself on Amazon one day. Had no idea this book was available there!! I wrote the introduction to this stencilling book back when I had a painting business - all the stuff about how to stencil, supplies, etc.

I am ... a Blogger

It's my blog!!! It's My Life!

I write a lot about books, what's happening in my life and liberty/freedom/libertarian topics. No real focus to it other than the fact that it's about my life.

I am ... an Idea Hamster

As such, I have way more ideas than I will probably ever be able to do lenses on. Seriously. I have a list right now of more than 300 ideas. And that list doesn't get any shorter because I spend time making lenses on things that aren't even on the list.

Here's a quick preview of some of my ideas:

  • More on Dallas restaurants - five stars, steakhouses, sushi

  • More on Dallas events

  • Historical fiction

  • Worst book I ever read - The Bridges of Madison County (although Frankenstein is now in a close second)

I am ... a Traveller

I've been all over the United States and finally got to use my passport last year on a mission trip to Sudan. I love to go places, any place, and also love watching travel shows. Working on an application for The Amazing Race, in fact!

This lens was done back in 2008 when the dollar made traveling to Europe really expensive.

Or at least one with a good sense of humor. I had a great time putting these together. Lots of good stuff to waste time with here.

I am ... Spoiling for a Fight

Finally have a couple of MonkeyBrains under my belt. One's a rather overdone topic, but I'm quite proud of the other.

I am ... Writing at Gather

Sometimes I run across information that just isn't appropriate for inclusion in a lens and that's where a Gather account comes in. I'm writing (well, used to write) articles over there to delve into some topics a little more. Come check me out.

Oh, and you can Gather too!!

I am ... A Singer and Music Lover

I sing in the Women's Chorus of Dallas (which will get its own lens here soon) and just love music.

I am ... A Split Personality

Not entirely. But I do have a couple of lenses (with more on the way!!) that I did for my husband. He owned the tracking forum Track Addict(sadly now defunct) and we did some lenses on related topics.
Loading

I am ... In Good Company

I am not the only wonderful Susan on the planet. Thank goodness!! That would be a lot of pressure!
Loading

I am ... Blessed by Others

Here are a few of the lensmasters who have influenced my lensmaking style or who I just like for whatever reason. I'm random and my list is too. :-) You'll see different folks here every time you load the page.

You want to see good stuff, go visit them. (But come back here when you're done!!!)

Hmmm. Only one guy on this list. What's up with that?

Shout Out For SusanVillasLewis!

But don't forget to keep going for more of what I've done on Squidoo!

Bookpile

I love to read. I mean _love_ to read. So it makes sense that I'd have a bunch of book lenses. And I'm still a working on more!

Books are a big part of what I write about on my personal blog. Every month, I do a post recapping what I read that month with brief reviews. When I hit something I really like or feel there's a lot to share about, I make a lens.

I am ... a Big Reader

And these kinds of lenses give me more excuses to keep my nose in a book! (When it's not in front of the computer screen, that is!)
Loading

I am ... In Love with Kid's Books

I got back to reading books for the pre-teen set when my nieces and friends' kids started approaching that age. If you're a parent with pre-teens, you don't always have time to screen books for them. Enter Aunt/Miss Susan!! I've been devouring books left and right to recommend to my little friends and having a blast doing it.

This particular set are appropriate and would be enjoyed by either sex.
Loading

I am ... Remembering My Favorites

As my nieces and nephews get older, we have the chance to talk about books more. And while I recommend and we discuss current books, I also get taken back on memory lane to some that were my favorites as a kid.

Loading

I am ... Reading Books for Older Kids

These books are ones geared more toward the 12-and-up range, in my book. Not to say your 10-year-old might not like them, just that they aren't really the target audience.
Loading

I am ... Intrigued by Business

I try to read more non-fiction these days. And that tends to mean business-related books. These actually got lenses made out of them as part of Seth's alternative MBA program.
Loading

I am ... Sharing My Bookpile

I gave a try at making a lens each month based on what I had read. The lens then tied back to my blog post where I reviewed the books. But ... too much work. And the randomness of each month's selections make for very unfocused lenses. But here they are!

For the Kids

Somewhere inside, I'm still 10. Maybe younger. Love Sesame Street, Nickelodeon shows and even decorating kids bedrooms. It's all good.

My fascination sometimes turns into a lens. Especially with books and decorating. Sometimes, I just do lenses because I know other people are fascinated.

I am ... Another Lensmaster

This is me in another form. I moved all my kids bedroom lenses over to another account to keep things neater and more tidy.

Check out my lensographies in that account. Good place to start exploring all of those lenses.
Loading

I am ... a Sesame Street Fan!!

In addition to all the lenses I have on individual characters, I have a lot of lenses covering different things you can get with characters.
Loading

I am ... In Love with Sesame Street Characters

While I don't watch Sesame Street anymore, I'm still a big fan and lover of the characters. After all, I and the show are the same age and just getting better as the years go by!

I am ... Slightly Random

Couldn't decide where to put these, so until I have a better plan ...
Loading

I am ... Planning a Party!

Often, lenses I do suggest other lenses. And birthday party ones are pretty typical. Most of these came from doing a movie lens and I discovered it was easier/better to split birthday party supplies and ideas off on their own.

Shopping

Yes, I like to shop. Love to shop. After I lost weight, shopping became even more fun. And I'm always on the look out for interesting and new things to point out.

I have several "shops" on Squidoo. Yes, I'm here to make some money as well as have fun. My thought process behind the shops is to create a convenient one-stop experience for you around a particular type of item. So I have things from several different online stores all brought together for your convenience. Ain't I nice?

I Am ... Talking Aprons

I am ... On a Cycling Kick

I had a boss that was in to cycling at one point and for some reason, that got me looking at cycling jerseys. Which got me intrigued by all the unique and random jerseys you could get. This is a set that just keeps expanding and probably could use a little more slicing and dicing and adding and refining. But it's been a great one for me.

People

I'm not really a people person. More than eight in the room and I start to fade. (Unless I'm on stage giving a speech. Then bring on all the people you can!)

But I am intrigued by people and have done lenses on ones I like - either because of what they've done or just because they're pretty. Or in some cases, because I knew other people would want to read about them.
