Sustainable building and living
After 30+ years involved in the practice of architecture, I finally see changes that we began to see the need for way back in the seventies. There is a lot of hype associated with this subject right now and I hope to sort through that and bring some logic and pragmatism to the subject in order to focus on the most effective ways of reducing waste of energy and materials.
While there must be enthusiastic support for new "Green" buildings and construction methods, we must find ways of retrofitting the hundreds of thousands of existing structures to make them more efficient and livable. I welcome all opinions, information, and all methods of realizing the awesome potential we possess when there is a great need.

Why stop at compact fluorescents?
LED bulbs last ten times longer than compact fluorescent bulbs and more than one hundred times longer than incandescent bulbs. If each U.S. household replaced just one standard 60 watt bulb with a LED Light bulb we could eliminate an entire power plant. Shown below are links to a few LED bulbs and, as you can see, there is a wide variety of bulbs available.Changing to CFL's is a great idea but this is even better.
