Suzi Quatro: Queen of Glam Rock
Suzi Quatro, although American by birth, achieved greater success as a recording artist in the UK and Australia during the 1970s than she did in the USA.
While she had been recording as part of the Detroit based garage band The Pleasure Seekers during the Sixties, it was not until her move to the UK in 1971 that she found fame and fortune. She was paired up with hit songwriters Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, and soon became the most prominent female representative of the British Glam Rock boom.
Between 1973 and 1975, she achieved seven UK Top 40 hits, including two #1 songs, Can the Can and Devil Gate Drive, and has since gone on to see further success as an actress and radio presenter.
Major acclaim appeared to elude Suzi in the US, with most people only remembering her there either as Leather Tuscadero from the TV comedy Happy Days, or for the hit song Stumblin' In, a duet with Chris Norman.
But for some she will always be fondly recalled as the leather-clad, diminutive Queen of Glam from the 1970s, brandishing an electric guitar almost as big as herself.
As one of her songs noted - Suzi Quatro was "The Wild One".

Suzi Quatro: Can the Can
May 1973 saw the beginning of Suzi Quatro's phenomenal success as her second single release, Can the Can hit #1 in both the UK and Australia, and achieved further good fortune across Europe. Strangely, the record bombed in the USA.

- I am a huge Suzi Quatro fan. I think I completely wore out several cassette tapes of hers! I didn't know she had gone on to continued fame and fortune in the UK and Oz. That's good to hear :D

- Great page. Not my kind of music - and I can understand her tanking in the US. Her looks and sound don't really fit the USA.
