Swap bot - Internet Swapping Robot

Swap bot is the latest in swapping technology. Started in 2005 by Rachel and Travis Johnson it is one of the coolest sites online. If you craft, pen pal, or blog swap this is the perfect place for you. Before swap-bot if you wanted to conduct a swap you would gather the names of the participants and then using your genius and referee skills assign partners to others. With Swap-bot you no longer have to do that work. You host a swap, approve participants, and then Click Assign Partners and the technology does all the work for you. It even sends reminders to all your partipants.Favorite Me

Peace Swap

Hosted by Greenwoodtree

I loved this swap. My partner (the hostess) sent me a wonder plaque of PEACE. It is a circle painted with the 'Earth' and surrounded by gun shells that she got from a nearby hunters area and Flowers are growing out of the shells. The shells are in the form of a PEACE SIGN. It is hanging on my wall in the living room because I think she did a perfect job in displaying what peace really is. Peace can happen even in the midst of 'gun shells'.

PHOTO: This is my Peace project that I sent my partner. I crocheted a prayer shawl - all the while praying for my partner and her family and friends. I then added the word Shalom (peace) and a Peace sign so that when she cuddles up in the shawl she will be wrapped in my prayers of Peace for her and the ones she loves.

Swap-Bot Matchbox Shrines

How to Make a Matchbox Shrine

Charlotte Kemsley explains it well when she said:

Altered Matchbox

These little boxes are just so much fun to make! They also make a neat alternative to a card - you can even put in a tiny letter or a small pressie which reflects the theme of your shrine.

First, wrap the outer box in paper - you can use anything! I like using scrapbooking papers which have been aged by sanding them lightly, but also vintage or newspaper, all of which can be further enhanced by stamping. Glue paper round box, don't forget to overlap on the edge, and trim. Add small collage elements - anything that takes your fancy: pictures, epoxy resin stickers, buttons, nibs, mini ring pulls for drinks cans, postage stamps, coins, pieces of junk jewellery - just stick somewhat to the theme of your box - although of course there's always that happy discordant that makes you sit up and take notice, that makes your piece interesting rather than bland!

For the inside of the box, either use 'ready' materials, like copies of vintage photos etc - experiment with curving the image by cutting it longer than the size of the box, or tilt the image to one side, or top to bottom. I also like stamping on newspaper and just gluing it flat into the box, although of course you can use the other methods above too, but you'll then need to strengthen the newspaper by gluing it onto card. Embellish the inside image if you wish - I quite like small torch lightbulbs or halogen ones.

Go for it! Personally, I like a lot of detail on these boxes - and the more kitsch, the better! How about giving your box wings - fairy, butterfly or angel - or noses! - or ears! This is a great opportunity to use all those weird and wonderful little bits you've collected over the years - and then you'll have room for new stuff!

Swap-Bot Inchies

How to make an Inchie

What is an Inchie?
TandaStamps says:

An Inchie is a 1" square of art. You can decorate it as you wish. Stamping, embellishing and colouring in any way you choose. On the reverse you write your name and the month and the year - not much room for anything else! Inchies are the current craze among crafters with various swaps taking place all over the place.

ArtJunkGirls Blog has an excellent tutorial on how to make inchies. (Little Squares With Fashion) You can also check out her project "1000 squares in 2007". Very talented young lady.

Collage Contessa also has a tutorial on her blog.

Renmeleon has a tutorial on Flickr that you can take a look at as well.

Swap-Bot Excess Friendship Books

Penpals FBs, Slams, Decos, and Sticker Books

Swap-Bot is an excellent place to get rid of the excess Fbs, slams, decos, or sticker books you have laying around. I often have at least one Excess FB(Friendship Booklet) swap per month.

Penpal letters are another item swapped a lot on swap-bot. I hosted a Crafty Penpal swap not too long ago and it was really neat to find others who share this passion as well as paling.

Many times we'll have writing prompts like 'My Favorite Song', My Favorite T.V. Show, or My life in Song. We just celebrated the International Letter Writing Day by exchanging letters and making new pals.

Swap Kawaii on Swap-bot

Bento, Letter Sets, Amigurumi, Stickers, Charms, Pencils, Erasers

From Wiki:

Since the 1970s, cuteness (%u53EF%u611B%u3055, kawaisa?) has become a prominent aspect of Japanese popular culture, entertainment, clothing, food, toys, personal appearance, behavior, and mannerisms. Foreign observers often find this cuteness intriguing and sometimes strange because the Japanese employ it in a vast array of situations and demographics where, in other cultures, it would be considered incongruously juvenile or frivolous (for example, in government publications, public service warnings, office environments, military advertisements, and commercial airliners, among many others).

Kawaii collecting (Sanrio, San-x, Kamio, Q-lia, Crux, Mindwave)is very addicting and you will find a lot of friends to swap with. Kawaii swaps can always be found year round on swap-bot.

You can swap just about anything. Past swaps have included: stickers, bento boxes, plushies, food, amigurumi, letter sets, novelty jars, fabric, and clothing.

Sorry to hear about your experience with swapbot. I have been flaked on a number of times but I also know what to look for now in swaps. I check all participants and have created a number of groups with people I know to be honest swappers. Now, some may consider that a clique but really it's just me saving my time and money and swapping with people who play fair.

Give it another go and don't judge the entire site by the bad 'apples' that are out there.

Before I decide to do a single swap I first join and on the second last day I check all the profiles of the swap participants.

So far I didn't made bad experience and I really love swapbot. I'm from Europe and joined an European Group on swap bot. The European swaps start to grow and that's really great because all the good swaps are mostly in the USA and the postage is nearly killing me.

Well...it's a lot of fun for me :o)

I've been 2 months but I've dropped a lot of the swaps I was in because of the cliques and rude people. I have not had any personal issues but I have seen what they have done to other people. I'm going to stay and do my groups swaps and a few personal ones, but other than that I am going to avoid it. I am disgusted with the behavior on the site. I love swapping and I am hoping to find another site or group with nicer people.

I really loved swap-bot at first, until I was taken advantage of several times. It's also very cliqish, and people can be very hurtful and rude. Be sure you really check people out before you commit to any swap, even the swap host!!
