SWTOR Playable Races | Star Wars: The Old Republic

This lens is about SWTOR Playable Races - which SWTOR races you can use for your character, and what classes you can choose to play them as. I already did a lens on SWTOR Playable Species, but I think a lot of people (erroneously, some might argue!) refer to the species as races and so they get a little bit confused. So I decided to do another lens to clear up any confusion that people might have.

But just so that we're clear, SWTOR Playable Races and Species are the same thing. And I will also be mentioning all the different social abilities for the different SWTOR races or species. So I hope this helps you, and please drop a comment below to let me know if you have any questions!

What are the SWTOR Playable Races?

There are nine SWTOR playable races that you can choose from at the moment:

Chiss, Cyborg, Human, Miraluka, Mirialan, Rattataki, Sith Pureblood, Twi'lek and Zabrak.

Social attributes differ depending on which race you play with, but I don't believe that there are any significant advantages or benefits with choosing any one race - except, of course, which races can play as which classes.

This SWTOR Guide explains this very well, and gives a lot more information which will help you in choosing the right SWTOR race for what you want, as well as with levelling, crafting / crew skills and mastering the game.

But I'll just run through the different SWTOR races confirmed below:
SWTOR Leveling Guide - SWTOR Secrets

SWTOR Playable Races: Chiss

SWTOR Playable Races - ChissTall-looking aliens with blue skin and glowing red eyes, the Chiss are similar to the human race in a lot of ways.

Their social ability is the Salute. So any allies you come across or that happen to be nearby will stand at attention and salute you.

You can only play with this race as a Bounty Hunter or an Imperial Agent, and so only Sith faction players will be able to use this race.

SWTOR Playable Races: Cyborg

The Cyborg social ability is the Scan, which means that your character will be able to scan any targets cybernetically.

At this moment, you can play the SWTOR Cyborg race if your chosen class is Smuggler or Trooper (if you have allegiance to the Galaxy Republic), and as a Sith Warrior, Imperial Agent or Bounty Hunter (if you are in the Sith Empire faction).

SWTOR Playable Races: Human

SWTOR Playable Races - HumanThe SWTOR Human race is one of two SWTOR playable races which can be used with any of the eight classes available. Also, the human character will be highly customisable, so this should make them an attractive choice for a lot of players.

The human social ability is the Rally, which allows them to rally or call up any allies located nearby.

SWTOR Playable Races: Miraluka

SWTOR Playable Races - MiralukaThe Miraluka are a human-like, Force-sensitive race with no eyes or sense of sight, who are able to use the Force to see.

Their social ability is called the "Sense Force Alignment", and this allows you to use the Force to sense the alignment of any target.

They can be used to play as a Jedi Knight or a Jedi Consular.

SWTOR Playable Races: Mirialan

SWTOR Playable Races - MirialanThe Mirialan race is known for its speed, agility and combat skills.

Their social ability is the "Focusing Ritual", which allows them to begin a ritual which serves to provide recovery and rest for their spirits.

They can be used to play in any Republic Class, as a Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, Trooper or Smuggler.

SWTOR Playable Races: Rattataki

SWTOR Playable Races - RattatakiThe Rattataki race are battle hardened fighting machines, with human form but pale skinned and having no hair.

Their social ability is the "Shadowbox". This is like a warm up for battle, where they perform shadow punches and counters in preparation for any imminent fights.

They can only be used as a Bounty Hunter, Sith Inquisitor, or Imperial Agent.

SWTOR Playable Races: Sith Pureblood

SWTOR Playable Races - Sith PurebloodAn impressive, war-thirsty race descended directly from the ancient Sith civilisation. Their social ability is, aptly, the Punish which allows you to punish your companions if they fail at any tasks.

You can only play this species as a Sith Warrior or a Sith Inquisitor.

SWTOR Playable Races: Twi%u2019lek

SWTOR Playable Races - Twi’lekTheir social ability is the "Parlor Dance", a cultural dance customary and unique to the Twi'lek race.

You can play these as a Jedi Knight, a Jedi Consular, Smuggler or Sith Inquisitor, although I don't expect too many players from the Sith faction to be using this character!

SWTOR Playable Races: Zabrak

SWTOR Playable Races - ZabrakThis SWTOR race is the second race, along with Human, that you can use to play in any class across both factions.

Their social ability is "Inspire Loyalty", which allows the character to bring forth loyalty from nearby allies.

You can get more information on the SWTOR playable races HERE, including the social abilities and other qualities that could help you choose the right species and classes.
