SWTOR Stat Breakdown | Star Wars: The Old Republic

In this lens, I want to give readers a brief SWTOR stat breakdown. A SWTOR Stats 101 session, if you like, to help people get to grips better with Star Wars: The Old Republic and maybe to understand better how it ties in with specs and the general gameplay.

I see a lot of similar questions in the forums as I get asked by some of my mates, usually along the lines of "what does this stat do?", "how does this stat work?", "what stat do I need to focus on for my class?" and so on. So hopefully things will be a lot clearer after reading through.

As usual, if you have any questions, please drop me a line at the bottom of the page. You can also check out my featured lenses for some other SWTOR-related guides and tips.

SWTOR Stat Breakdown

Introduction

Are you confused by the seemingly vast array of SWTOR's character stats? Don't be!

I know it looks like SWTOR's stats are very complex because there are a lot of new stats which do not appear in previous MMORPGs. However, just like other MMORPGs, it boils down to one thing - your SWTOR character can only be as effective as whatever stats it has and the items that it is equipped with.

There are two groups of stats: Primary and Secondary stats.

SWTOR Primary Stats

SWTOR Primary Stats

The SWTOR Primary stats affect the effectiveness of your character, and your class determines how the different stats affect your hero. In other words, your primary stat is the most important stat that you need to focus on for your class. Also, certain advanced classes can get additional bonus effects from each primary stat and maybe this is something to think about also.

There are 6 primary stats in SWTOR: Aim, Cunning, Endurance, Presence, Strength and Willpower.

Aim: This is a stat for Ranged DPS characters. It increases the ranged damage you will be able to deal to opponents and also increases the ranged critical hit chance with ranged weapons. This is one that the Bounty Hunters and Troopers should focus on as their main primary stat.

Cunning: This affects abilities when using technology. It increases the range damage, ranged critical chance, technological damage and technological critical hit chance. This is a primary stat for Smugglers and Imperial Agents, with advanced classes Scoundrels and Operatives receiving healing power effects as a bonus with this stat.

Endurance: This primary stat increases the amount of damage you can endure (which is effectively your maximum health gauge), and also how quickly your health can regenerate after sustaining damage.

Presence: This stat is perfect for solo sets because it affects the health, healing and damage of your companions.

Strength: This is a stat for Melee DPS characters. It increases the damage that you are able to deal in close-range melee attacks. It also increases the critical hit chance that you get with melee weapons and attacks. This is a primary stat for Jedi Knights and Sith Warriors to focus on.

Willpower: This stat affects the damage and healing of characters that have Force-related abilities, also increasing the critical hit rate of force attacks. The Jedi Consulars and Sith Inquisitors will want to pay attention to this one! The advanced classes Jedi Sage and Sith Sorcerer also get healing power effects as a bonus with this stat.

The way the SWTOR stats work is that you will effectively have your class primary stat and endurance within your leveling gear. However, as you start leveling higher and gain access to high quality gear, you start to encounter more stats - these are called Secondary stats.

SWTOR Secondary Stats

SWTOR Secondary Stats

The SWTOR Secondary Stats include the following:

Absorption: This strengthens your shield so that it can withstand a higher amount of damage.

Accuracy: This makes you more accurate with attacks on your opponents. This is an interesting one because when you get your accuracy above 100%, then your opponents' ability to block or avoid your attacks will be reduced. Effectively, any extra above 100% is converted to penetrative ability against your opponent.

Alacrity: This is similar to the "haste" rating you may have seen in other MMORPGs. It reduces the activation time as well as the global cooldown (GCD) on certain channeled skills and abilities, although it doesn't seem to do much for instant attacks.

Armor: This is a dynamic stat which increases your resistance to kinetic (melee attacks and Jedi force abilities) and energy (force lightning attacks and fire blasts) offensive attacks, but has no effect on internal or elemental damage.

Critical Rating: This increases how likely you are to register critical hits with all attacks and heals.

Defense Rating: This stat increases your ability to dodge, deflect ranged attacks or parry melee ones.

Force Power: This increases the strength and magnitude of force abilities (relating to both offensive and healing abilities).

Healing Power: This stat increases how much healing you get from all your healing abilities. The game splits this into "Healing Power: Force" and "Healing Power: Tech", but they're pretty much the same thing.

Power: This simply relates to the amount of damage or healing that can be obtained from all abilities.

Shield Rating: This increases the ability of shields to absorb any damage inflicted by opponents.

Surge: This increases your critical hit bonus, meaning that you will be able to deal more damage than normal from crit hits - I believe this is 50% more damage or healing on a crit compared to normal. This is useful for PvP where burst damage is invaluable against your opponents.

Tech Power: This increases the strength and magnitude of tech abilities (relating to both offensive and healing abilities).

SWTOR PvP Stats

SWTOR PvP StatsThere are certain stats which are directly applicable to PvP such as:

Expertise: This increases the damage or healing dealt as well as reduces the damage sustained in PvP combat. In PvP, it's like a one-size-fits-all type of stats for PvP and it adds a little bit to everything.

Valor: These are PvP specific stats which, as the number of valor points obtained increases, grants you access to special and advanced pieces of equipment.

Other SWTOR Non-Combat Stats

There are some other stats which are useful to know. Even though they do not feature or help in combat, they are there to affect your character so as to add to the overall SWTOR experience and, sometimes, indirectly affect your overall success.

Affection: This stat lets you know the impact of your decisions during missions on your companions. In particular, this stat is affected by gifts you give to your companions as well as the private conversations you have with them. The higher the affection points, the higher the success and rate at which crew skills are completed.
SWTOR Dark Side PointsDark Side or Light Side points: The conversations you have when you are out on missions affects this stat, as well as crew skills.

It comes up as a gauge, and as you make decisions that favour one side, the needle moves in the direction so that it displays the net value of light or dark side points.

For example, if you get 3000 dark side points and 1000 light side points, the needle will reflect 2000 dark side points.
SWTOR Social PointsSocial Points: The more you join groups on social missions and at flashpoints, the more social points you get.

These are useful in that they grant you access to locked equipment and things like that.
I think this pretty much a comprehensive SWTOR Stats breakdown. As I said, particularly for the secondary stats, you will only start encountering more and more stats as you level higher in the game. If you need help with leveling faster and you want in on the best leveling and build tactics out there, then you need to get your hands on the Aeon SWTOR Mastery Guide.

But please drop a line below to let me know how you're getting on in the game, particularly about your experiences and the sorts of equipment you're unlocking as you level up in the game.

To level up in this class is to have effective swtor credits kills, for when a Bounty Hunter gains reputation that the price to hire as a mercenary increases too
