Jatropha Curcas - Biodiesel plant

Ranked #17,932 in Home & Garden, #257,036 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund

Hello, Nice to meet you!

Welcome to my SQUIDOO. Here i would like to share about my hobby with all of you. It's about growing our own oil. DO you have any idea what's it about?
Let's check out for more detail

Jarak jatropha

Jarak jatropha - use for bio diesel

Bio fuel is a new source of energy where we mix diesel oil with vegetable oil in ratio of 90:10. There are many vegetable oil that can be used. The best type of vege oil that i propose is by using jarak jatropha. This type of plant is easy to keep because it is wild plant. The cost to buy this plant at early stage is quiet cheap; RM0.60 per plant. If you have 1 acre of land you can plant up to 800 plants. The cost will be around RM480 (Malaysia currency). This plant can start produce crop after 6 months and it can lives up to 50 years depend on how you treat them. In Malaysia you can join scheme under BIONAS where you can sell back the crop at RM850 per tonne (1 tonne = 1000kg) That's quite a lot! These plant use organic fertiliser on it you suppose you use vermicompost fertiliser. You know what's it? It is fertiliser made from worm compost. In my next article maybe i can share with you about this. This project of growing jatropha tree doesn't take all your time. If your are working, you can do this on weekend. But make sure you have the land.
Regarding land, current market price is RM30k to RM50k per acre. That will consume all your budget!! My suggestion is you should try to rent land around Seremban near N.Sembilan. I have try this and i can pretty good deal. RM50 per month for 5 years!! WOW!
In growing this plant make sure you set up good and strong fence to avoid intruder like cows and wild boar. If not they will enter your premise.
About total budget, i think the cost is not very high. With RM5000 you can start this project whereby the breakeven should be after 1 to 2 years.

Produce Biodiesel from Jatropha oil

Basics of Biodiesel Production

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel for diesel engines that is gaining attention in the United States
after reaching a considerable level of success in Europe. Its primary advantages are that it is one
of the most renewable fuels currently available and it is also non-toxic and biodegradable. It can
also be used directly in most diesel engines without requiring extensive engine modifications.
The purpose of this book is to describe and explain the processes and issues involved in
producing this new fuel.
The most cursory look at the literature relating to biodiesel will soon reveal the following
relationship for prediction of biodiesel from fats and oils.
100 lbs of oil + 10 lbs of methanol %u2192 100 lbs of biodiesel + 10 lbs of glycerol
