The T-72 at first had a fearsome reputation in Western military circles for its speed, powerful cannon, marching ability and all around high degree of capability. A few decades later after misuse by Arab armies, improved western designs and tactics and inferior early export models to client states the reputation of the T-72 suffered greatly.

Once again there has been a shift as opinions are once again decades out of date as Ukrainian, Russian and upgraded versions of the T-72 are far superior to the T-72 export model of ages past.
