Hurricane on the Bayou - DVD - Blueray
Starring Tab Benoit and Amanda Shaw - Narrated by Merryl Streep
Narrated by Academy Award winning actress Meryl Streep and driven by a rousing jazz, blues and gospel-fueled soundtrack, Hurricane on the Bayou is both a haunting document of a storm's human effects and a compelling call to restore Louisiana's wetlands, rebuild New Orleans, and honor the place where America's most vibrant home-grown culture was born.
Unfolding against the poignant backdrop of the most costly natural disaster in America's history, MacGillivray Freeman's IMAX cameras follow a group of four musicians, both legendary and rising, as they explore the electrifying culture of New Orleans: speed through the beautiful, alligator-filled bayous on airboats; recount their heart-wrenching, personal stories of Katrina; and most of all, bring the focus to the rapidly disappearing wetlands that are New Orleans' first line of defense against deadly storms.
The wealth, cultural vitality and very future of New Orleans depend on the preservation of these wetlands. The soundtrack features music legends Fats Domino, Aaron Neville, and Dr. John as well as many more!

If you are a fan of the really hot blues singer, Tab Benoit, you will really enjoy this movie. Wonderfully done and really moving! It's filmed around the home of Tab in Louisiana. If you get a chance to see it in an Imax Theatre, it will be well worth the price of a ticket. The fabulous sound and scenery is great to watch on the BIG screen. I can't wait to see it again in my own home. The wetlands and destruction of Hurricane Katrina will really move you. -- P. Carrier, Opelousas, LA, USA
Having spent most of my life in Louisiana, I can vouch for the wonderful images and authentic bayou sounds of Tab Benoit, Amanda Shaw (what an amazing young talent!), Chubby Carrier, and the other artists featured in this movie. My heart aches for the devastion and suffering that remains in New Orleans, from Hurricane Katrina. How compassionately and respectfully this movie shows it! The erosion of the Louisiana coast and wetlands is a serious issue that will impact humans and wildlife far beyond the borders of the state. Thank goodness for passionate advocates such as Tab Benoit, and others, who are trying to make a difference. I cried, laughed, felt full of pride, felt full of despair, as I watched this movie at the OmniMax, and can't wait to own a copy when it is available. Definitely see it at an OmniMax if you can. Like me, you will probably want to own your own copy. I bought the sound track at the theater, after the show. I keep it in my car, and listen to it nearly every day. -- Sandy Ashurst, Cajun Mom, St. Louis, MO USA

Night Train to Nashville - Tab Benoit
For anyone who saw Benoit play a two-night stand in Nashville at The Place On Second Street just prior to the 2007 Blues Music Awards ceremony, the reasons for the accolades were crystal clear. Backed by Louisiana's LeRoux and a handful of high-profile guest performers representing a range of roots music styles, Benoit reaffirmed his reputation as a force to be reckoned with on the blues landscape in ways that no trophy ever could.
For the millions of fans unable to witness this electrifying performance first-hand, "Night Train To Nashville," Benoit's sixth solo release on Telarc, is the next best thing. The 11-track live recording, set for April 22, 2008, captures the magic and intensity of Benoit in a live setting, joined by his faithful backup unit and New Orleans mainstay, Louisiana's LeRoux, and a series of guests representing some of the most talented voices on the current blues, Cajun and country scenes: harpist/vocalist Jimmy Hall (Wet Willie), guitarist/vocalist Jim Lauderdale, harpist/accordionist Johnny Sansone, fiddler/washboard player Waylon Thibodeaux and harpist/vocalist and Fabulous Thunderbirds frontman Kim Wilson.

Another Great Album Even Live!
Tab Benoit once again proves why he is in such high demand at the blues shows that he plays all over the country. I have been a fan of tab since I was first introduced to his music back in 1998. I'm not really a fan of live albums but for those of you who have seen Tab live you know that its a good thing. This albums has all the heart and soul that tab pours into each and every one of his albums. I'm also glad to see that Lousianna Leroux also got be on this album as well. Listening to it makes me wait with anticipation for his next show at the Fargo Bluesfest this coming August. The choice of songs for this album creates a perfect flow for this album as well with the introductory Night Train to the soulful Darkness to the upbeat Lost in Your Lovin to the old school sounds of Stackolina which closes out the album. Overall I rate it right up there with the rest of his albums and a must have for any fan. -- Patrick E. Erdner, Mankato, MN, USA

Fever for the Bayou
Buddy Guy's "I Smell a Rat" is the album's longest track as Benoit, beginning with a tasty intro, takes his most extended guitar workout, conjuring up a late-night blues club feel in the process. Benoit also contributes three originals, including the zydeco-tinged title track, an anthem of Cajun pride that serves him well as a signature song. Also his is the swamp stomper "Night Train," the album opener. At the other end is a surprise finale, a sublime front-porch, finger-picking acoustic rendition of "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It". --Michael Point

Blues from the heart
This is great! You could start and finish your review with that simple statement. I always admired Mr. Benoit work, however from my point of view this has to be his best effort to date. This album is one of the best blues CD I have ever came across. Marvellous guitar playing and even better singing throughout the entire work. If you are looking for a true "blues" CD, a blues CD with the capital "B", played the way it meant to be, do not waste your time looking for more, you have found it. More than very highly recommended this is just an essential purchase for all the blues fan around the word. For sure one of the best release so far in 2005 and maybe one of the best ever. Just pick it up and you wont be disappointed. -- M. Bernocchi, Old Windsor, Berkshire United Kingdom

Whiskey Store Live
But, as 2002's Whiskey Store collaboration proved, the duo's strengths complement, even invigorate each other. The resulting tour is captured here, in all its volatile glory. Both headliners, along with gutsy saxist Jimmy Carpenter and dynamic B3 organist Ken Faltinson, are in smashing form.
As you would expect, the studio work is expanded, extended, and juiced with additional moonshine for the live experience. Benoit's more palatable vocals dominate, and his gripping version of Otis Redding's "These Arms of Mine" is the show's most emotionally stirring performance. But blues guitar lovers aren't aboard just for the poignant moments; they want pyrotechnics, which are abundantly provided as well. From the fiery double-time explosion of a nine-minute "Bayou Boogie" to the feverish swamp funk of "Bone Pickin'" and the stealthy, slow burn of the title track, this is a breathtaking picking extravaganza offering plentiful proof of each artist's speed, dexterity and collaborative discipline. --Hal Horowitz

Whiskey Store - Live
I saw Whiskey Store Live at Ft. Lauderdale Riverwalk Blues & Music Festival and was "blown away". Fantastic in a word. The Whiskey Store Live CD is just like being live in concert with them. The CD & music is "Smokin Hot". The CD should be in every blues lovers CD collection. Crank it up and let the music fly, you will tell all your blues lover friends to buy it. -- Douglass E. Power of the Pontchartrain - Tab Benoit
But that only tells part of the story--the rest is in the grooves where Benoit's distinctive, grainy voice and tough Telecaster leads bring soul, grit, and intensity to a sound already infused with an earthy sensibility. There's more of the same on this disc, but that's no criticism.
Benoit generally sticks with others' songs here, yet he unearths hidden gems. Julie Miller's "Midnight and Lonesome" is dragged into the murky swamps as a driving ballad with eerie qualities that live up to its name. Miller and husband Buddy are also credited with the righteous-yet-rugged gospel of "Shelter Me." "Somebody's Got to Go," originally by Lonnie Johnson, gets a crisp, frisky makeover, and even Buffalo Springfield's crusty "For What It's Worth" takes a swim in the muddy waters of Benoit's home state, with a little help of some altered, post-Katrina lyrics.
The guitarist lets his Cajun influences fly on the bouncy rhythms of "Sac-Au-Lait Fishing," the album's only original, and shifts into pleading Otis Redding mode for the aching blues ballad "I'm Guilty of Lovin' You." The Chicago-by-way-of-the-Delta shuffle of "One Foot in the Bayou" is also an apt description of Benoit's approach. He touches on a variety of Americana styles, yet always keeps part of himself planted firmly in the wetlands of his roots. --Hal Horowitz

Every time you buy a Tab Benoit's CD you can be sure that you will not be disappointed. And, as always, the brand new "Power of the Pontchartrain" confirms that rule. Excellent material played extremely well by Tab and the accompanying band. This time the "Louisiana's Leroux" are the supporting band and this is not irrelevant to the great final result. In fact the band spent several years, as explained in the linear notes, with one of the greatest Louisiana blues player of all time Mr. Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. The album is really very good and I would take the risk to say that from my point of view this is Tab's best effort so far. Tab's voice sounds great as always and the guitar playing is absolutely fantastic throughout the entire CD. The excellent and clean production and sound of Telarc Blues deserve a mention too. All the eleven songs in the menu are very strong and you will not be tempted to use the skip bottom of your CD player at any time, however I believe that a special mention is deserved by the great cover of the Stephen Stills' classic "For what it's worth", by the deep blues "Midnight and lonesome" that for me is the best cut of the bunch, and by the two mid tempo "Somebody got to go" and "Addicted". Very highly recommended for all the blues lovers. -- M. Bernocchi, Old Windsor, Berkshire United Kingdom
